Publisher NIS America has just confirmed that the latest Trails title, Trails beyond the Horizon, has been delayed into next year.
Previously, the RPG was set for an autumn / fall launch here in the west — having already had its Japanese release back in 2024. The title will now target January 2026 on all platforms, including PS5 and PS4.
It's a real shame, because as alluded, this is the newest Trails game, and so the west was finally going to be caught up with the series. That dream's going to have to wait a little longer to come true.

It's not all doom and gloom, though. Let's not forget that Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter — a full remake of the original adventure — is locked in for the 19th September.
We wouldn't be at all surprised if 1st Chapter's launch has convinced NISA to push Horizon back. After all, having two meaty Trails releases drop within the space of a few months might be considered overkill. These are long games, after all.

That poster seemingly spoiling that Kevin is back in this one is a good excuse to catch up, Sky 3rd is one of my favourites in the series.
Thank God 😂. I've reached Trails Through Daybreak 1, would be awesome to actually being able to join playing new release of the series being caught up for the first time ever, since I became a fan years ago
@nessisonett man, I always considered just skipping it, but while waiting for From Zero to release few years ago, I played it leading up to 3. Great experience, Kevin became maybe my favourite character if the franchise. And his whole back story and reveal at the end was the craziest of any character in the series to me
With how stacked this year is I'm honestly a bit relieved.😅
Rest assured though I'll be there come January.
@emj2010 The doors in Sky 3rd are probably the best writing in the series. Renne’s story in those exposes a large portion of the writing in the Cold Steel games for the childish slop it is.
Havent even played Daybreak 2 yet so not a big problem for me. 3 Trails games in one year would be to much anyway
10 dollars more on the Switch 2 and it's a game key card version 😬.
I'm fine with it. Three full blown Trails games in one year was a bit too much anyway.
One of the few times I'm actually excited from a delay. 3 trails games in one year is a bit much. I still got a get to Daybreak 2.
January should be a quite month, so this is perfect really
Ahhh well, still haven't finished Daybreak 2 so gives me plenty time to finish that.
Shame but chapter 1 will tie me over
Man, still getting PS4 games in 2026… this is why the weaker of hardware of the Switch 2 doesn’t matter; and why it crazy that both Sony and Microsoft are talking about next gen consoles.
@AverageGamer I mean, we kept getting wii games (Just Dance) until a few years ago (in 2020, specifically). That was not a reflection of the industry. Most Japanese games have a small budget that even switch 1 could easily. That won't change any time soon. They know their audience is quite small. Now if GTA or Ghost of Yotei also released on ps4, we'd have a problem.
Im way more excited for the trails in the sky remake than this one so coming in 2026 no big deal
I wish it was Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter being delayed to next year and Horizon still coming out in Autumn. I would rather play a fresh experience rather than a reimagined one. Oh well Trails in the Sky it is then
The delay unfortunately is due to the announcement of the Switch 2 version and them wanting it to release at the same time on all platforms. I'm disappointed I was really looking forward to it on my PS5 and have had the collectors edition preordered
Oh thank goodness! I am still trying to finish Daybreak 2. I have stalled a bit.
Well...my day is effectively ruined T_T
@nessisonett
😂 Why so harsh? I must be a child at heart, because I just drank up all that slop as quickly as I could. I loved Cold Steel I and II. I did play it in Japanese though, so there's that. Some of the failings may come down to localization. Sky trilogy was great but the door scenes you mentioned have been tampered with in later releases (at least in Japan) due to ratings concerns. I played the evolution version of 3rd, and had to go to YouTube for the full Renne backstory.
