What if Stardew Valley put you in charge of a supermarket instead of a farm? That appears to be the vibe of Discounty, an upcoming tycoon title from PQube and Crinkle Cut Games.

Due out on 21st August, this is being billed as a “cosy life sim”, but judging by the trailer it looks like all is not quite as it seems, and there may be something more sinister bubbling beneath the surface.

“Design and organize your shop, manage stock levels, work the checkout, and strike trade deals,” the press release teases.

“Build relationships with the charming locals and grow your business empire while navigating community dynamics.

“Use every tool at your disposal to expand your business, but be mindful: rapid growth might ruffle a few feathers in this tight-knit community. Will you pursue endless profits, or find a way to benefit everyone in Blomkest?”

You’ll have creative control over how you organise your store, and as your profits grow, you’ll be able to reinvest your bulging bank balance into new stock and advertising. You’ll also be able to interact with the locals and learn a little more about their backgrounds and stories.

We love a little life sim like this, especially if it’s got tycoon elements, and we’re definitely drawn in by the souped-up Game Boy Advance-style pixel art. But is there time in your busy gaming itinerary for a new cosy time sapper like this?
