Lord of the Rings Online delays the Sting server again, now to May 21, as it addresses missing items

It sounds wild, but Lord of the Rings Online players are still feeling the after-effects of the spring transfer situation, as one of the new 64-bit servers still hasn’t opened, the dark worlds still haven’t been cleared for access, and some folks are still missing items lost in the chaos. Standing Stone Games has addressed all three in its latest Discord memo to players, which begins by delaying the launch of the Sting server for at least the third time. At least it’s for a good cause.

“We are working on changes to prevent an issue with housing escrow items becoming lost when a player sells their premium personal or kinship house,” the studio says. “Unfortunately, while we have made significant progress on correcting this issue, this fix has not yet passed internal testing. As a result, we are postponing the launch of Sting until this issue is corrected. We expect Sting to open no earlier then May 21st, and we’ll have more information on timing when we can. We are working to get a preview of this housing escrow fix onto Bullroarer, and we will have more information on that timing as soon as we can.”

Notably, the team is also warning players that they need to log in after the fix is ready but before trying to transfer again, else they could lose their stuff forever.

“This fix aims to return items that have gone missing to date. This fix will only correct items that went missing due to the sale of a premium personal or kinship home. However, this fix REQUIRES players to log into their current game world prior to further transfers. Failing to do so will permanently disassociate missing items from your game account, and customer support will not be able to assist. Therefore, it is extremely important that players log into a game world once this fix is in place prior to any further transfers. Players currently transferring should remove all hooked items and place them into character storage, and remove all items from any small Premium per-house Storage chests, prior to any Shared Items transfer. We encourage all players to not conduct any Shared Items transfer unless they remove these items and place them into character storage.”

Finally, there’s still no fresh date for transfers between 64-bit servers or for transfers from the dark worlds that were meant to begin two months ago. The wait continues.
