Star Wars Battlefront Team Deathmatch Mode Is Called ‘Blast’

by Mike Futter on Jul 30, 2015 at 09:48 AM

Star Wars Battlefront isn’t just about capturing objectives and defending turrets. You can straight up kill the other team, if you’re playing the newly announced Blast mode.

Blast pits two teams of ten against each other in ten-minute rounds. The first to reach 100 kills (or is ahead when time runs out), wins.

EA says that the different modes like Walker Assault and Blast will take place on the same maps, however aesthetic differences will make them feel different. “Say you've just played Walker Assault mode on Hoth and then switched to Blast, still on Hoth,” writes lead level designer Dennis Brännvall. “Thanks to variations in lighting and time of day, you'll definitely see a difference.”

The Blast maps are sub-sections of the larger objective, so they’re made to feel a bit more compact. The terrain will be familiar, rather than separate maps designed for the modes.

There are no vehicles or heroes in Blast, so players will need to rely on their weapon loadouts and map-based pickups to win the day. Star Wars Battlefront will be out on November 17 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Our Take
I haven’t had the chance to play Battlefront yet, and I’m reserving judgment until I do. I’m hopeful what’s there is compelling, because it doesn’t seem like there’s quite as much content as even past entries in the series.
