Realm of the Mad God begins testing a sweeping ‘Rework’ overhaul

Deca Games’ Realm of the Mad God is that game you forget exists until someone reminds you about it, then you go “oh YEAH” and find yourself temporarily captivated by how weird it is. If you don’t recall, this is a top-down bullet hell rogue lite permadeath MMO that makes it fun to die and restart.

Oh yeah. That is weird.

And now Realm of the Mad God is getting a top-down makeover thanks to its “Realm Rework” update that went into open beta this week. The revamp both changes and adds onto the game in significant ways, including better gear acquisition, more biomes, more bosses, and beacons that zip you over to a safe zone if you get in over your head.

“Not far beyond the shores, you can explore the seven Adept biomes, each with Godlands-tier enemies and dungeons yielding stat potions. Each biome caters towards specific portals and rewards, allowing you to tailor your adventure,” the team said.

MMO readers will recall that Deca Games has been in the news a lot lately; as one of Embracer’s substudios, it is slowly subsuming the Cryptic Studios MMORPGs.
