Cohere has released a developer kit to make enterprise AI app building faster and simpler. This toolkit contains an open-source repository of apps that can be deployed immediately across any cloud provider. It also includes components designed to “build unique applications and deploy at scale.”

“A core challenge with building AI applications is that developers need to stitch together AI models, prompt templates, retrieval pipelines, and user interfaces with relevant backend code, all within a secure environment,” Cohere’s Elaine Gao and Beatrix De Wilde wrote in a post. “This development process takes months because developers must experiment with how each of these components fit together.”

Applications available within the Cohere toolkit can leverage the company’s Command, Embed and Rerank models across Amazon Web Services, Azure and Cohere, with others to be added later. The first included application is a RAG-powered knowledge assistant that should surface information quickly, automate tasks and foster team collaboration.

Cohere has also bundled in its toolkit so-called plug-and-play components and source code for chat user interfaces, a module enabling developers to interact with the company’s Command R and R+ models, and tools to build efficient retrieval systems. Cohere says deploying an application requires only a few “simple” steps.”

Gao and De Wilde explain that “developers only have to point the code to where models live to achieve a scalable application ready to deploy in their environment.” Applications can be customized, and developers can contribute new ones to the Cohere repository.

Releasing a toolkit will reduce the planning and research development teams may have to do within the enterprise. This playbook is similar to when there were Platform-as-a-Service players such as Parse, Heroku, AWS Amplify and others to aid in cloud and mobile app development. Cohere’s strategy lets companies invest more time in the creative and business process than struggling to figure out how to implement an AI app.

The Cohere toolkit is available on the company’s GitHub repository.
