RIFT holds a server load test as part of new data center migration, manually reruns the Mech Parade event

This week marks another bit of odd activity in RIFT, which appears to be associated with earlier server merging and server transfers: Gamigo is encouraging players to join in a server load test in order to kick the tires of the MMORPG’s migration to new data centers.

Between now and March 29th, NA and EU players are asked to select an SLT region from the RIFT’s Glyph launcher. Those who help out will be granted seven days’ worth of subscription time for their live accounts after the test has concluded.

According to our tipster, Gamigo is moving its cloud hosting services from Google to OVH, which might end up being a cheaper option in comparison, while Gamigo characterizes the data center move as a way to “provide [players] with a seamless experience in Telara, free from lag or disconnections.” In any case, those who want to see if these new servers are better servers are invited to take a peek.

If data center testing isn’t your thing, then this weekend in RIFT still has something for you to do with the return of the Mech Parade event between now and March 25th. The event itself will once again task players with defeating rampaging mechs for currency, which can then be traded in for mounts, pets, and other rewards. Interestingly, this event is not an automated event; it had to be manually begun by Gamigo. Make of that what you will.
