Granblue Fantasy: Relink will take a PS5, PS4 patch today that bundles a new late-game quest into the RPG, and makes some microtransactions available on the PS Store. On the Proud difficulty option, a new quest titled The Final Vision will allow you to battle Lucilius alongside Supreme Primarch Sandalphon. This updates the game to version 1.1.0, with two more content drops planned for April and May that will add more playable characters.
As for the microtransactions, you can now buy upgrade packs that'll help you boost your characters and weapons. They are priced as follows:
- Let's Chat Emote Expansion set — £1.69 / $1.99
- Self-Improvement Pack — £2.49 / $2.99
- Weapon Uncap Items Pack — £2.49 / $2.99
- Weapon Upgrade Items Pack — £2.49 / $2.99
- Sigil Upgrade Items Pack — £2.49 / $2.99
Each PSN account can only buy the content packs once. Although, all of the purchases are labelled as "Pack 1", which suggests there'll be more to come in the future. If you choose to buy any of them, you're items will be found at the Knickknack Shack, where you can claim them under the "Claim Add-Ons" option.

It still feels disingenuous to release a game for review and then add microtransactions later in the way this title has. But I guess this in not unusual with modern games. I dont have to like it though!
To be fair, you could buy all the above for less than £12, so its not extortionate, but charging for things like emotes which should be in the game feels crass to me...
@Titntin It won't take anything away from this game for me because I love it so much, but it is a little annoying.
Capcom tend to do something similar with the Resident Evil games too.

Since this keep happening and it doesn't retroactively affect the meta score of any game, I think from now on we can either assume that every game will have MTX at some point and deduct points in the initial review or not take MTX into consideration in the reviews at all. Cuz I don't see how this is any better. It's just sneaky.
I have no issues with them adding micro transactions. I bought the game on release and did everything I wanted to do and feel like I got my monies worth. The game is only £50, so even with the added micro transactions it's still cheaper than most games released today. It's just an extra option that people can choose to use if they wish.

Love the game - you really have zero need for improvement packs to finish it. 100% optional.
If I was still playing it I would get it just to send a bit more cash their way. What I do with any game I enjoyed that has a few extra DLC items.
The MTX are literally there just for lazy players who don't want to do a little grinding.
Free quest good! Micro-transactions not so much.
I had (and am still having in between Rebirth) a great time with this game, and I really hope they continue supporting it with free updates / quests / weapons etc. would actually like to see weekly or even daily quests Monster Hunter style which could keep people coming back. But let’s see what the future holds.
@UltimateOtaku91 I think it’s the other way around. The grind is there in the game to push vulnerable people into buying microtransactions.
I hate when developers put booster/level-skip microtransactions in their games. Even if the game is balanced enough to not really need them, it’s basically telling people, “Hey, our game is a grindy chore to play, so give us more money so you can play it less.”
It’s pure psychological manipulation, used to take advantage of kids (or their parents), neurodivergent people, and people with more money than sense.
I haven't heard any bad things about this game. Please don't let this news affect your enjoyment of Relink.

Cheaper than other games I think, where they charge 10- 15£ for each item.
These things are done to test the water before laying the bar even lower. Indies do show that they can do rjings cheaper and better.
