Following the news last week that four Xbox games would be going multiplatform, we finally got a reveal of the first of these, as Grounded was announced for the Switch.

The game was the first reveal in the latest Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase broadcast, and revealed that the Obsidian adventure will arrive on Nintendo’s handheld in just a couple of short months time.

Grounded sees up to four players attempt to survive an oversized world as they’re shrunk down to miniature size. You’ll be gathering resources, building tools and structures while also going through an overarching story to try and return yourself to normal size.

Here’s what we know.

Grounded Nintendo Switch release date

Grounded will arrive on Nintendo Switch on April 16, 2024. It’ll also support cross platform play with the Xbox and PC version.

The game originally launched in early access on Xbox One back in July 2020, receiving two years of updates before it finally hit version 1.0 in September of 2022. It’s still had plenty of updates since then, and is even set to get an animated adaptation.

Grounded is one of four Xbox games set to arrive on other formats in the next few months. Phil Spencer announced that these games would be coming as they felt “there is an interesting story for us there for introducing Xbox franchises to players on other platforms to get them more interested in Xbox.”

While the four games names were kept under wraps during the announcement, the Xbox Podcast offered up some clues, in that two would be “community driven games” – which Grounded certainly fits that billing.

Towards the end of the Nintendo Direct, it was also confirmed that Obsidian’s other recent Xbox release, Pentiment – would also be coming to the Nintendo Switch as soon as tomorrow, leaving only two more games to be revealed.
