Following CD Projekt Red’s critically acclaimed release of the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion Phantom Liberty, CEO Adam Kiciński has announced that development on a new game is well underway, though for a completely different yet equally beloved series. Kiciński revealed their team is already working intensively on The Witcher 4, codenamed Polaris, with over 330 people involved. He further stated that the studio will ramp up efforts in the middle of 2024, as the team is set to grow to 400 members.

But despite Phantom Liberty getting rave reviews and CDPR having released The Witcher 3 next-gen update more than a year ago, a release date for their next medieval series entry is unlikely to come any time soon. In an interview with Polish news site Parkiet, Kiciński said that “dates will be announced later rather than earlier” following Cyberpunk’s less-than-ideal rushed premiere. However, he did hint that they may be providing more details on their project in the coming months “to build great interest.”

Aside from announcing the status of The Witcher 4 Polaris, Kiciński also said that their team will continue work on another project set in The Witcher’s universe, codenamed Sirius, with US-based studio The Molasses Flood. The CDPR CEO then added that The Witcher 1 remake, which was initially announced back in 2022, is similarly being developed together with Fool’s Theory studio. CDPR has yet to announced release dates for both games as of writing.

Unfortunately, those looking forward to a new adventure through the futuristic metropolis of Night City will have to wait even longer, as Kiciński noted that Cyberpunk 2, codenamed Orion, is still in its conceptual stage. “The team is currently being built, and its core will be people developing the North American studio in Boston,” he continued. A larger structure will then be built around the core team, which includes their Vancouver team and support from developers based in Poland.

Alas, this all means fans won’t be getting their hands on any CD Projekt Red-developed games any time soon.
