Genshin Impact’s hugely anticipated 4.0 update will release later this week, bringing with it the all-new Hydro region of Fontaine. Of course, the underwater city is not the only major addition, with two new characters available to recruit in the form of the magical double-act, Lyney and Lynette. Ahead of the latest content drop, developer HoYoverse has released a duo of trailers detailing the new arrivals.
First is Lyney, the bow-wielding Pyro trickster introduced in the trailer below. He’s able to drop Prop Arrows onto the stage by using charged attacks, and he can ignite any surplus stacks using his Elemental Skill. Meanwhile, his Elemental Burst sees him transform into a cat in a hat, raining down fire damage on unsuspecting foes.
Lynette, meanwhile, is his sister and magical associate. She’s an Anemo sword-wielder whose Elemental Skill has a couple of styles to it, depending on whether you hold the button or tap it. Meanwhile, her Elemental Burst summons a Bogglecat Box, which taunts opponents and gains the power of the elemental properties it comes into contact with.
Both characters will be available in the first phase of banners available this week alongside update 4.0, while Lynette will actually be obtainable for free as part of a seasonal event. Can anyone playing this let me know if there is a solid story to play through? I’m been curious about it a couple times but haven’t dug in.
@FatalBubbles - Genshin has a huge story to play through but it isn't finished yet and won't be complete for a long while yet. There are 7 main regions in the game world with each region expanding the story and Fontaine will be the 5th region added so far.
@FatalBubbles Each region has its own storyline that ultimately ties into the overall storyline which typically gets its own expansion after the novelty of the new region wears off. Individual characters also their have sub-stories which tend to be one shots. The story is surprisingly good, it's not afraid to explore some pretty dark stuff and after some justified early criticism the writing has only gotten better.
Each new character doesnt need insane levels of grind - you get character XP in the form of usable items, not points, and you get them from just about everything you do - so these are saved up in your bag and when you get a new character you just dump a load on them and get them up to the level you want instantly.
The appeal is the huge and rich world they have built since launch, and incredibly good stories that you play through, with voice acted cut scenes throughout, and a wealth of background.
Exploration is constantly rewarded, especially for those who go outside of any obvious path, and there are new events added every 2 weeks or so - which when compared to a typical MMO you may get the same number added every 4 months if you were lucky.
The characters themsevles are well crafted, the art and world design is simply beautiful, and you can play for years and never need to spend a penny. I have a huge number of characters that cost me nothing and let me build a variety of different play styles to suit different bosses and quests.
Its a genuinely excellent game and they have managed to take the "free to play gatcha" model and develop it into a system that doesnt make you feel pressured or even required in any way to buy anything unless you especially like a character and really want it (I presume!). But the amount of "gems" given in game is at times so over the top I wonder why anyone would need to actually purchase any!
@Jamesblob It doesnt need an audience outside of the "cellphone" crowd. They are the ones daft enough to keep paying for things in these sorts of games
