THQ Nordic has revealed as part of this evening’s THQ Nordic Showcase that it’s finally working on a sequel to sleeper-hit action RPG, Titan Quest.

Taking place once more in Ancient Greece and set around Greek Mythology, Titan Quest 2 promises “more meaningful” and more tactical combat than its predecessor. The plot will be centered around Fate, we’re told – in the sense of how it can be influenced and changed and what that means in Greek mythology.

One of the original game’s main hooks was that, rather than traditional character classes, players were able to create their own custom class by combining masteries and skill modifiers. This will be expanded upon in the sequel, we’re told, as you grow your character and level up. Similarly, we’re also teased that game will offer ‘meaningful loot’ rather than just loot that you look at the numbers of the stats and forget about it.

The original Titan Quest arrived all the way back in 2006, and originally had one expansion entitled Titan Quest Immortal Throne in 2007 before the original THQ collapsed in 2013. However, the series was revived under THQ Nordic with a remaster and a second expansion called Titan Quest Ragnarok in 2018 for the game’s Anniversary Edition. It’d get a third and fourth expansion, entitled Atlantis and Eternal Embers respectively, by the end of 2021.

Developer Grimlore Games are behind this completely new sequel project, which will be built in Unreal Engine 5. There’ll be a day and night cycle, and the game will also support online multiplayer with online co-op. There’ll be more details on the game in the coming weeks. At the time of writing, Titan Quest 2 is only confirmed for PC, and no release date has been given outside of “soon” – but you can Wishlist the game on Steam now, if you’re keen.
