Legendary Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka has announced he's creating new music for a PS5, PS4 indie horror title revealed today: Stray Souls. Said to be inspired by the survival horror series out of Konami, it's apparently releasing later this year, and you can catch a first glimpse in the trailer above.

The reason we say "apparently" is because according to an Xbox Wire post about the game, developer Jukai Studio only "officially opened its doors in 2022". Unless the title was actually being made prior to last year, that's an absurdly quick turnaround. Nevertheless, Stray Souls is designed as "a truly immersive player experience inspired by the classics of the genre. To accomplish this, the team prioritized great audio, and for that, they turned to none other than Akira Yamaoka, whose work on the Silent Hill series is iconic."

In the reveal trailer, you can hear Yamaoka's latest track Splintered Minds. As for the game itself, here is the story setup: "Dive into the mind of Daniel, a teenage boy who inherits a home from his estranged grandmother. As he moves in, dark secrets hiding within the house and Daniel’s past come out of the woodworks — secrets Daniel can't seem to outrun…"
