Nintendo has announced that a brand-new Super Mario Bros. game titled, ‘Super Mario Bros Wonder’ will soon be released for the Nintendo Switch on October 20, 2023.

Revealed as part of the June Nintendo Direct, Super Mario Bros Wonder is a colorful 2D platformer reminiscent of the original games of yore that featured everyone’s favorite blue overall-wearing plumber. This time around, however, players can expect much improved graphics, fresh gameplay elements, as well as some intriguing new power-ups.

Based on some of the scenes shown throughout the preview, it also seems as if there’ll be a few new playable characters as well including Princess Daisy, who had never before been a featured member in any of the previous series entries. With all of these fascinating elements having been shown off in the trailer, both casual and hardcore fans are predictably excited at this modern Mario installment that mixes both classic and contemporary design.

Some fans commenting under the official gameplay reveal couldn’t help but remark on the game’s incredible animation and environmental design. One commenter noted that this is going to be “such a refreshing take on 2D Mario since every NSMB game was basically the same.” Another user then ended up pointing out that “this feels like the first time we’ve been given a truly new 2D Mario experience in over a decade.”

Pre-orders for Super Mario Bros Wonder is now live and you’ll be able to get your own copy of the stunning new entry through the Nintendo eShop. Once you’ve put in your own pre-order for the game, we suggest checking out some of the other games that were put on display during the event, such as the Super Mario RPG remake and Detective Pikachu Returns.
