Epic has revealed it’ll be bringing the highly anticipated Ranked Mode to its battle royale shooter Fortnite from tomorrow – and detailed what players can expect.

A tweet from the Fortnite Status account revealed that the update won’t be arriving on the usual Tuesday schedule as fans may have expected, but instead will drop tomorrow – Wednesday May 17 – along with patch version 24.40. The arrival of the brand new Ranked mode for the game was first revealed last week, with a tease from Epic Games – and the studio has now revealed more details about how exactly this mode will work.

As per a recent blog post, Fortnite’s Ranked mode will include eight tiers – from Bronze all the way up to Unreal – with three ranks in each between the Bronze and Diamond levels and a singular tier for Elite, Champion and Unreal players. Players will also have separate ranks for both Battle Royale and Zero Build modes. Proceedings will kick off tomorrow with Ranked Season Zero, which will last until the end of Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3.

At launch, only specific modes will support Ranked – namely Battle Royale in Solo, Duos and Squads and Zero Build in Duos, but Epic say they’ll consider adding more down the line. For squad modes, your team will have a party rank that’s equivalent to the rank of your highest ranked teammate, and teams will be matched against those with the same or similar rank.

Some fans were disappointed about the additional 24 hour wait, with members of the game’s subreddit posting things like “Epic – you’re breaking my heart!” from Spear_Speaks007. However, many were also grateful for the extra time to prepare and to get themselves ready to grind for when the mode drops. “It’ll be worth the wait, I’m excited no matter what!” says EyaPixie on Twitter. Either way, it’s sure to prove a very popular mode – if the reaction is anything to go by.
