The International Olympic Committee has announced that battle royale shooter Fortnite will form part of the inaugural Olympic Esports Week in Singapore this June.

The ever-popular free-to-play game will make up the sport shooting category in the games, as the International Shooting Sport Federation’s specific challenge. It’ll see 12 players from the 2023 Fortnite Champion Series invited to compete on a specially made Fortnite Creative island that’ll be made up to “reflect sport shooting competition”. Those players will put their target aiming accuracy to the test in front of a global audience globally on the official Olympics channels, for the chance to become an Olympic Esports Series winner.

The entire Olympic Esports series will be a four day festival held between between Thursday 22 June and Sunday 25 June, with the highlight being the first in-person live finals of the Olympic Esports Series 2023. Events on the docket include archery, cycling, dancing and sailing, baseball, taekwondo, sport shooting, tennis, motorsport and chess. These contests will take place in a range of popular video games, like NBA 2K23, Just Dance and Gran Turismo as well as the aforementioned Fortnite.

The live finals – as well as an official Olympic Esports Week opening ceremony – will be streamed globally on the official Olympics website for anyone to watch worldwide. There’s no word if there’ll be any flossing involved, mind.

Right now of course, Fortnite is in the middle of an ‘Ultimate ‘Ultimate Star Wars experience’ that came along with its most recent update 24.40. For more on the battle royale shooter – why not read our picks of the Best Adventure Maps in Fortnite Creative?
