EA's new single-player first-person magic shooter Immortals of Aveum now has a release date of July 20 across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. Immortals of Aveum was first revealed at The Game Awards 2022 in a cinematic teaser trailer that revealed the basic concept behind the game, but did not reveal many other details.

Immortals of Aveum is developed by the Ascendant Studios, a studio comprised of award-winning industry veterans. The game has been in development for the past five years, and while the initial trailer drew comparisons to games like Avowed, Immortals of Aveum should be able to carve out an identity of its own when it releases this July.

As explained by EA, Immortals of Aveum is the story of Jak, a character who "joins an elite order battlemages" and masters magic attacks. Magic is categorized as blue, green, and red, with players able to chain together attacks while exploring Immortals of Aveum's unique fantasy world. Jak will be played by Never Have I Ever's Darren Barnet, whereas Gina Torres of Firefly fame will be voicing the character General Kirkan. General Kirkan recruits Jack to join the Order of Immortals after he is discovered to be an Unforeseen, which is someone who initially did not have magic powers, but mysterious develops them later in their life.

When Immortals of Aveum launches on July 20, it will be priced similarly to other AAA games currently on the market, meaning it has a $70 price tag on consoles. But while those on PlayStation and Xbox can expect to pay $70 for Immortals of Aveum, those on PC will only have to pay $60. No reason has been given as to why there is a discrepancy between the price of the PC version and the price of the console versions.

Those impressed by Immortals of Aveum's trailer and find themselves wanting to pre-order the game should know that pre-orders are open now. Anyone that pre-orders Immortals of Aveum will get the Purified Arclight sigil, which buffs Jak's spells. This sounds like a pay-to-win advantage on paper, but since the game is a single-player, it's unlikely to upset too many potential Immortals of Aveum players. There will also be a Deluxe Edition available ($70 on PC, $80 on consoles) that comes with a unique sigil, three rings, two bracers, and three totems.

With an industry largely focused on pushing out live service games or online-centric titles, it's always refreshing to see a brand-new IP with a big budget hit the scene. Fantasy game fans will find out if Immortals of Aveum lives up to expectations when it launches this summer.
