Hogwarts Legacy has no shortage of spells for players to learn and use as they attend class, complete extracurricular assignments, and get into trouble with their friends. Incendio is one of the spells players can learn relatively early on, and acts as the first Damage type spell players will have access to. It's incredibly useful in combat, exploration, and even puzzle solving, so players should make learning Incendio a priority, especially if they plan on venturing outside the castle walls often.
While some spells are learned simply by attending class at Hogwarts, Incendio is taught to the player as part of an Assignment. Players will need to progress the story far enough so that they unlock this Assignment and then complete all parts of it. After doing this and completing a short minigame, Incendio will be available for use for the rest of the player's time with Hogwarts Legacy.
Complete Professor Hecat's Assignment I
For players that have just started the game, it's necessary to progress through the story a bit before unlocking Professor Hecat's Assignment that teaches the player Incendio. Specifically, complete the main quest titled "The Locket's Secret" and this Assignment will immediately become available. Players must win two rounds of Crossed Wands and complete a round of Spell Combination Training with Lucan Brattleby. Both of these can be done by talking to Lucan Brattleby in the Clocktower Courtyard.
Learning Incendio
After emerging victorious from both rounds of Crossed Wands and completing the Spell Combination Training, head back to Professor Hecat to learn Incendio, the Fire-Making Charm. Players will once again be met with Hogwarts Legacy's spell learning minigame. Simply press the buttons at the right time and aim the cursor down the path shown and learning Incendio should be no problem at all. Equip Incendio to one of the four available slots on the spell set and fire away. Outside of combat this spell can be used as frequently as the player wants, but it has a somewhat long cooldown in combat.
How to Use Incendio
As previously mentioned, Incendio has a surprising number of uses for a Damage spell. The most obvious application is to damage enemies and light them aflame. This is particularly useful against Inferius and Spiders, as the former cannot be damaged unless they are on fire and the latter will explode if lit on fire and struck with a basic cast while on low health. Aside from this, Incendio is also useful for exploration, as it can be used to clear away spider webs that may be blocking paths or barring the player from reaching chests. Finally, many puzzles throughout Hogwarts Legacy require the player to light braziers or bonfires. For example, it may be worth checking out the Viaduct Courtyard Bridge now that players know Incendio.
Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One ports are scheduled to release on April 4; the Nintendo Switch version is arriving on July 25, 2023.
