Anthony Mackie, who recently took on the role of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has opened up about the challenges his character will face as he takes on the mantle of leading the Avengers.

Mackie's portrayal of Sam Wilson as Captain America was well-received by fans, and he is set to lead the Captain America: New World Order cast. However, Sam Wilson stands apart from the rest of the Avengers in ways that could present challenges when facing villains as powerful as Kang the Conqueror.

In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Mackie discussed his concerns about his character's ability to lead the Avengers. "Sam is the only character without superpowers. He's just a regular dude hanging out with a bunch of weirdos," Mackie said. "Being from New Orleans, I've been in a few fights. And heart and charisma never helped me in a fight. That usually just got me beat up. So that might cause an issue when you go fight somebody like Thanos."

Mackie's Captain America is different from his predecessor, Steve Rogers, which will be reflected in his approach to leadership. While Rogers was a strong and authoritative leader, Mackie's character is more relatable and understands the complexities of real-world issues. Mackie believes that his character's empathetic nature will make him a better leader, allowing him to connect with the other Avengers on a personal level. Mackie has also discussed the importance of representation in the MCU in the past. As the first Black actor to play Captain America, he brings a unique perspective to the character. He believes this is an opportunity to show young Black children that they can be heroes too, and don't have to conform to the traditional superhero mould.

Mackie's Captain America will deal with the aftermath of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, where he was first introduced as the new Captain America. The series explored themes of race and identity, and Mackie's character will continue to grapple with these issues as he leads his team. The Avengers will face new threats in Captain America: New World Order and Mackie's Captain America will need to find a way to unite the group and devise a strategy to overcome the enemy.

This will require tact and diplomacy as he works to balance the Avengers' different personalities and skill sets. However, Mackie is up for the challenge and believes his character's unique perspective and empathetic nature will make him a better leader. Fans can look forward to seeing how Mackie's Captain America navigates these challenges and leads the Avengers into new and exciting adventures in Captain America: New World Order.

Captain America: New World Order is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.
