An Elden Ring PVP player has shown off an impressively cunning way to use Death Blight against unsuspecting foes. Elden Ring, like most “SoulsBorne” titles, has an intensely competitive PVP scene, where tactics such as this can make or break a fight.
Almost one year after the initial launch of Elden Ring, players are continuing to find new ways to enjoy the game. Whether it be defeating every boss with the Carian Slicer, or discovering a trick to find Elden Ring illusory walls, the game always seems to be evolving. With the dense lore of FromSoftware’s titles being matched with their legendarily intense combat, there has always been a very long life span for games in the “SoulsBorne” series. With both the lore and the combat being so complex, there is a world of layers beneath the initial experience of playing through Elden Ring, and while some players are quick to find powerful PVP strategies, there are always more ways to win hidden deep within.
Elden Ring player and Reddit user Neukbare-Nina has shown fellow fans one such strategy. Their post shows the player in Ranni’s Rise summoning in a friend who uses the “spread out” emote to lie concealed behind some crystals, before calling in invaders and luring them up the stairway. At the doorway at the top of the stairs, Neukbare-Nina drinks Ironjar Aromatic to put up their physical damage negation by 40%, and then casts Fia’s Mist into the staircase with their friend coming from behind to do the same. Trapping the invader into such a confined space gives the Death Sorcery the chance to cause instant death. What follows is reminiscent of an agonizing defeat to Malenia. Usually, while Fia’s Mist is quite a powerful spell, the slow build-up of Death Blight and the chance to move around in Elden Ring’s wide environments would mean that Fia’s Mist could be avoided.
This kind of trolling play style is quite popular with PVP players, as one player has pretended to be an NPC, and another still has used environmental hazards in Elden Ring to trick invaders into defeat. Commenters on Neukbare-Nina’s post titled “How to ruin people's day with Death Blight” pointed out the various bugs that had previously existed in the game around launch and how they were abused for powerful tactics in PVP.
One commenter said that they enjoy using a “Death Build” despite the challenge of trying to build up the Death Blight meter on their opponents. Perhaps they will be able to gain some inspiration from Neukbare-Nina’s devilish video. With the one-year anniversary coming up, FromSoftware will mark the occasion with an Elden Ring anniversary event, which is set to include a section specifically for PVP, perhaps players will be able to see more ways to use their favorite tactics and builds.
