Publisher Devolver Digital has announced Shadow Warrior 3: Definitive Edition is coming to PC, Xbox Series X and S, and PS5 later this month. On February 16, owners of next-gen consoles can experience Shadow Warrior 3 at 60fps or 4K and will also be treated to a few new game modes and quality-of-life enhancements to make revisiting the game worthwhile.

Shadow Warrior 3 launched in March 2022 to mainly positive reviews and a mixed reception from fans. The third installment in Lo Wang’s frantic shooter trilogy mixed the character’s irreverent humor with a more Doom Eternal-like approach to gameplay, mostly focused on arena battles and hot-swapping weapons as each battle dynamically changed enemies. Performance-wise, last-gen versions of Shadow Warrior 3 performed decently enough but were indeed not up to current graphical standards. Per Digital Foundry’s analysis, the PS4 Pro version of Shadow Warrior 3 seemed locked to 1080p 30fps using visual settings on par with the PC version’s low and medium settings.

Shadow Warrior 3: Definitive Edition is set to bring Lo Wang to the next generation with new Quality and Performance modes bringing the game up to 4K or 60fps. Developer Flying Wild Hog states that Quality mode is locked at 30fps on consoles. For the PS5 version of Shadow Warrior 3, Flying Wild Hog has also included DualSense haptic feedback support and controller speaker support. Moreover, Shadow Warrior 3: Definitive Edition appears to be using higher-quality graphical assets compared to the last-gen versions, making the game look all the more visually striking.

Outside of performance and visual improvements, Flying Wild Hog has added a New Game Plus Mode and a Survival Mode, which are unlocked after the main story is completed. Survival Mode takes players through three new battle arenas offering three new weapon skins for those who clear the whole set of trial arenas. For those who want more of a challenge from Shadow Warrior 3, Flying Wild Hog has also included a Hardcore Difficulty setting and a Hero Mode, which grants Lo Wang a limited amount of lives that he can only replenish through finishers. As a small quality-of-life improvement, Shadow Warrior 3: Definitive Edition now also features a chapter-select menu so fans can revisit their favorite moments from the main story.

All of these enhancements arrive as a free upgrade to current owners of Shadow Warrior 3 or at a discounted price for fans who have yet to check out Lo Wang’s third adventure. Currently, the game sits at a “Mostly Positive” recent review score on Steam, with most complaints stating how Shadow Warrior 3 is a bit devoid of content at roughly 5 to 8 hours in length. Hopefully, Shadow Warrior 3: Definitive Edition introduces enough new content to bring fans back to the game for another few rounds.

Shadow Warrior 3 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. A Definitive Edition launches February 16 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
