Most entries in the Final Fantasy series feature a variety of well-dressed characters, both heroes and villains. While some characters tend to sport more practical outfits, a select few prioritize fashion above all else. There's nothing wrong with wanting to look good, but given the stakes of most entries in the series, it would be wise to wear something that offers a little protection.

To be fair, some Final Fantasy characters sport armor, which usually serves to protect them from harm. Armor is arguably the best thing one can wear in this series, but it's easy to see why some characters refuse. Seeing as most entries in the series require its heroes to embark on a great journey, wearing armor or impractical clothing would be extremely uncomfortable.

5 Noctis' Prince's Fantigues - Final Fantasy 15

The opening of Final Fantasy 15 depicts Noctis in one of the most ordinary-looking outfits in the entire Final Fantasy series. He wears a black jacket, cropped pants, a t-shirt, boots, and gloves. While this mundane color combination leaves much to be desired, there's something refreshing about seeing a somewhat more normal costume in a JRPG.

That said, Noctis knew perfectly well where his adventures would take him and the terrain he needed to cross to reach his destination, so why did he choose to wear a completely black outfit? Upon gaining control of him, players must take Noctis across the desert. Considering this area lies just outside the city of Insomnia, the city itself can be assumed to be quite a hot location. Noctis is going through an edgy phase, so it makes sense why he might wear all black, but his choice to sacrifice comfort given the climate he is used to is bizarre. The Prince's Fatigues are probably quite comfortable when worn in the right climate, but it's hard to imagine they feel nice in most of the environments Noctis visits.

4 Nooj's Long Johns - Final Fantasy 10-2

Nooj in Final Fantasy X-2

Introduced in Final Fantasy 10-2, Nooj quickly became one of the most elusive figures in all of Spira. Though snippets of his backstory can be unearthed by progressing through the main story, much of Nooj's origins can only be discovered by completing optional quests. Upon learning everything there is to know about this so-called "deathseeker," players will come to understand why he dresses the way he does.

Long johns were designed to be extremely comfortable, but the way Nooj chooses to don them seems strange. Though he is engulfed in what appears to be a comfortable fabric, he also has several belts wrapped around his body. These belts are used primarily to secure Nooj's prosthetic arm and leg to his body. They are necessary for him if he wishes to move around, but it's likely incredibly uncomfortable. Nooj spends the entirety of Final Fantasy 10-2 wearing a form of pajamas, but the belts he incorporates into the overall look make the outfit seem unnecessarily uncomfortable.

3 Gabranth's Armor - Final Fantasy 12

Judge Gabranth from Final Fantasy 12

Though he likely has a more comfortable set of clothes stored somewhere in Archades, Gabranth takes a great deal of pride in presenting himself as a Judge. Conveying this image requires him to sport the armor of a Judge Magister, which entails a plate mail suit, a cape, and a ridiculous-looking helmet.

Though these three items certainly tie the look together, it's hard to imagine wearing such a combination would be comfortable. Even so, Gabranth only ever removes his helmet during the main story. As a devout servant to the Archadian Empire, it's likely he never complains about his outfit, but it can be assumed he gets tired of it from time to time.

2 Lulu's Dress - Final Fantasy 10

Lulu's outfit in Final Fantasy 10 is by far the most uncomfortable-looking clothing combination in the entire game. While the Black Mage dress doesn't seem too restrictive, the amalgamation of belts Lulu chooses to wrap around her legs is both a strange choice and a poorly thought-out one too.

Lulu's main role in Final Fantasy 10 is to escort Yuna to Zanarkand, a faraway land that was destroyed by Sin one thousand years ago. To get there, she needs to do a lot of walking, so it's hard to say why she chose to wrap so many belts around her legs. A pair of pants would have been much more effective, but Lulu seems to prefer being uncomfortable.

1 Aranea's Armor - Final Fantasy 15

Aranea Final Fantasy 15

The Dragoon job class has become a staple in the Final Fantasy series, and though most characters who don the armor of a Dragoon tend to look quite cool, it's hard to ignore how uncomfortable the armor usually ends up looking. Sadly, Final Fantasy 15's Aranea is no exception to this tradition.

In Final Fantasy 15, Aranea sports an armor known as Dragon Mail. Aside from a few metal protrusions, most of this outfit is made from leather, and will probably get extremely hot if one exerts too much energy while wearing it or if they find themselves roaming the desert. As if this didn't sound uncomfortable enough already, Aranea often sports a visor with spikes protruding from the top and the bottom. This, combined with the spikes emerging from her shoulder pads would not only be uncomfortable to wear but would also make movement unnecessarily difficult. The Episode Prompto DLC showed Aranea sporting a much more casual look, which is nice considering how uncomfortable her more notable outfit appears to be.
