Retro Studios is rumored to be working on an unannounced game that was hinted at in December 2022 from several different sources. Retro Studios is behind the first three Metroid Prime titles as well as other games like Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and Mario Kart 7, so many fans are sure to be excited about the potential for the long-awaited fourth installment in the Metroid Prime franchise, or another Donkey Kong or Mario Kart game.

There have been snippets of news and information here and there about the next Metroid game, with fans speculating release years and development stages based on leaks, rumors, and other such small nuggets of evidence. A Metroid Prime 4 job listing, for example, gave some clues about the type of setting that is being worked on for Metroid Prime 4 and how it compares to other titles in the series. However, it has been quite some time before any new information has been uncovered about the highly anticipated game.

There are a series of videos and leaks that refer to job listings for Retro Studios as well as the fact that the developer is said to be working on a new game from an already established IP, which means it must be from a long-running, established franchise. With all the delays and disappointments that fans have experienced with Metroid Prime 4, this news comes as a ray of hope that Retro Studios is finally pushing forward with solid development of the game. Many fans are sure to hope that Metroid Prime 4 is indeed the game referred to in the leaks and hope that it will get the attention and development it deserves because it is a mainline series game and not a spin-off or companion-style game, like Retro Studios' cancelled Legend of Zelda game featuring Sheik.

A few former Retro Studios developers have said that Metroid Prime 4 will be worth the wait, and many fans of the series are hoping that they are right because they have been waiting for quite some time. Last year, Metroid Dread scratched the Metroid itch, but it was still a 2D game and not the full-blown 3D experience that fans have been waiting for since the Metroid Prime Trilogy was released in 2009.

There have also been rumors about a potential remaster for the original Metroid Prime to come from Nintendo, so this is another possibility for the leaks and rumors to be grabbing onto. The job listing just mentions that it will be for an established IP, but does not state that it will be for a completely new title in that IP.

Either way, fans are hoping for a new Metroid game to drop soon, and with the rumors and leaks coming out in droves, it seems that there will likely be more development in that area soon. And if the unannounced game is part of a different series, whether it is Donkey Kong or Mario Kart, fans are sure to be excited for a new title in those franchises as well.
