Utilizing the Far Cry 5 level editor, a fan has recreated some areas of Scotland's capital city, but instead of Edinburgh Castle or the Royal Botanic Garden, they've gone for slightly more mundane aspects. Although the game was criticized for its anti-cheat system upon release, requiring players to be connected to the internet when they booted it up, Far Cry 5 is still considered by many to be a pretty solid entry in Ubisoft's open-world franchise. Much of this popularity seems to stem from being able to create custom maps.

For instance, someone recently managed to build a realistic replica of a McDonald's restaurant in Far Cry 5, complete with interior, and another person recreated Lord of the Rings' Helm's Deep. One of the great things about this level editor is that it lets fans really let their imagination run wild, particularly when considering the latter example. Of course, players don't have to build something wacky and unique. Sometimes it's enough to take something that's already familiar and see what it looks like when recreated digitally.

That's what YouTube user Mojo Swoptops has done, at least. As seen by Rock Paper Shotgun, this Far Cry 5 fan has done recreations of less famous landmarks and areas in Edinburgh, Scotland. A number of videos show how impressive these creations are. They include a local council estate featuring a row of ordinary houses and parked cars; Cables Wynd House; a series of flats commonly referred to as "Banana Leith Flats;" and Cowgate, a street known for its bars and nightclubs. Perhaps the most famous landmark that's been recreated is the Scottish Parliament, which has been made with a more post-apocalyptic aesthetic.

These creations show that Far Cry 5 is more than just a game that subverts good guy versus bad guy tropes or that has noteworthy climbing mechanics. The map editor allows for so much more creativity and some fans are evidently happy to let loose, even if what they come up with is not based on world-famous landmarks or uniquely imaginative. What Mojo Swoptops has done is still very impressive, especially when watching the behind-the-scenes of some of the builds.

For a lot of people, Far Cry 3 may be the best of the series, but the fifth game was still a well-received entry when it came out in 2018. While the sixth game was a slight let own for some, that isn't deterring Ubisoft, as there have been whispers that a Far Cry 7 may be in development.

Far Cry 5 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
