Each genre has its share of new shows, including sports anime, which always has a few new representatives coming out each year. Whether it be conventional sports like golf or combat sports like judo, sports anime can always be counted on to be exhilarating and exciting. Here are all the sports anime that have been announced for 2023 so far.

An incident during middle school causes Minato Narumiya to quit archery for good. In high school, Minato is intent on maintaining this until a chance encounter inspires him to join the Kazemai High School Kyudo Club, intent on winning the prefectural tournament with new and old teammates.

The second season of Tsurune once again follows Minato and his teammates as they aim for success in the prefectural tournament. It's been nearly half a decade since the first season aired back in 2018, and fans of the series (as well as the original light novels) will be happy to see it return, especially to support Kyoto Animation and their stellar work.

However, when Towa Hiura, the girl who defeated her in that very tournament, appears at her school and offers to form a judo club with her, her passion for the sport returns with a vengeance.

Ippon Again! is a sports anime centered around the combat sport of judo. While most anime about combat sports are often violent, Ippon Again! seems to be a more laid-back series. That doesn't necessarily mean that the series won't have its share of exciting bouts, but viewers can certainly expect to enjoy this series without having to get too heated up.

4 Birdie Wing: Golf Girls' Story Season 2

The second season of Birdie Wing: Golf Girls' Story takes place right after the first season, with Eve and Aoi teaming up to take on the All-Japan Girls High School Doubles Championships. Stepbrothers Toma and Soichiro Tachibana are phenomenal baseball talents, especially Toma, who is a one-of-a-kind pitcher. The two attend the historic Meisei High School, which once managed to make it to Koshien many years ago with the legendary pitcher Tatsuya Uesugi. Having never replicated that legendary success, Toma and Soichiro offer the Meisei team their first real chance at returning to Koshien.

Mix: Meisei Story is a sequel to the legendary sports romance series Touch, and the second season continues this new coming-of-age story. Sports fans, especially baseball fans, should not miss out on this series, even if they haven't experienced the original manga.

The Uma Musume Pretty Derby franchise has exploded ever since the first anime season aired back in 2018, and it has only managed to continue to build steam with the mobile game, a variety of character songs, and more. This new series is not a sequel to the main Uma Musume Pretty Derby, but a spin-off following several other characters separate from those featured in the anime.

The main characters of this series include T.M. Opera O., Admire Vega, and Narita Top Road, characters that once again represent racehorses that exist in real life. While the characters are different, fans of the franchise are sure to enjoy watching these formerly supporting characters take the lead.

In the near future, self-driving electric cars have become commonplace. However, a racing circuit using traditional internal combustion cars called MFG has been gaining popularity worldwide. While searching for his father Ken Katagiri, Kanata Livington enters the race, using a borrowed Toyota 86 from a family friend. His incredible driving skills allow him to win races despite being outmatched in specs, and soon, more skilled riders begin to take notice.

MF Ghost was created by Shuichi Shigeno, the same mind behind Initial D, with the protagonist of that series serving as Kanata's mentor. While the show's debut season has yet to be announced, fans of the legendary racing series are sure to enjoy this brand-new racing series, especially since it is certain to have references to the original series.
