A PlayStation 5 gamer has shown off their impressive collection of wall-mounted SteelBook game cases. The collection of PS5 cases consists of 30 different titles arranged neatly, displaying their art.

Trademarked by the packaging company, Scanavo, SteelBook cases are known for their unique art and distinct design. SteelBooks are made from metal and coated in different layers of pigment, offering texturing and definition that regular game cases cannot. Because of these qualities, deluxe upgrades of games often offer a “SteelBook edition” so that fans can collect them as art pieces, such as the Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin SteelBook.

Reddit user TheAlchemlst has adorned their wall with these pieces of art in a neat display of 30 different games. What makes this collection even more impressive is that they have arranged them in chronological order of which games they have earned a platinum trophy. While some games, such as Marvel’s Spider-Man, make it quite easy for PlayStation gamers to earn a platinum trophy, others take hours of dedicated playtime.

TheAlchemlst says that they “platinumed” Sonic Frontiers as their 44th game, but only 30 are on display in the photo. They also said that the interest began with getting the SteelBooks of games that had a big impact on their life, but soon they started seeking out cases that look good as well. This display shows the great artwork that goes into making games, as some of the best video game covers end up forgotten, but also reveals how games can influence a person’s life. For some, games are just a hobby or a way to spend free time, while for others it is a passion worth displaying.

The display also supports the side of maintaining physical copies over digital downloads, as one commenter said that they would be interested to do the same, but all their platinum trophies are on digital downloads. It also helps support the concept that games are art. The designs of the covers reflect the artistic choice that went into the creation of these games. The bold cover of the popular Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice may contrast the cover of Spyro that sits below it, but that goes to show the spectrum of different experiences offered by the PS5 and games as a whole. If art is defined as the expression of human creative skill and imagination, to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power, then these cases reflect that expression.
