Marvel Studios is celebrating what would have been Stan Lee's 100th birthday by bringing his story to life once again in the form of a documentary. To mark his 100th birth anniversary on Wednesday, the studio released a teaser trailer for Stan Lee Original Documentary showcasing the life of the legendary creator, which will premiere on Disney Plus in 2023.

Lee is known for his various cameos in multiple Marvel projects and is also the co-creator of some of the biggest names in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, many might not be aware of the true extent of his work and his contribution towards the comics. With the help of this upcoming documentary, the studio can introduce fans to the legend that they are already aware of in an entirely new light.

The 25-second teaser for the Stan Lee Original Documentary was shared by the studio on all its social media channels. “100 years of dreaming. 100 years of creating. 100 years of Stan Lee,” reads the caption on Twitter and Instagram. The teaser offers snippets of the many cameos that Lee has appeared in as part of the MCU, and ends with an illustration of the celebrated creator. It’s unclear whether the studio plans to keep the title simple, or if an official title for the documentary will be announced closer to the release date.

Lee contributed to bringing some extremely popular figures in the Marvel Comics and the MCU to life, including Spider-Man, Daredevil, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, the Avengers, Fantastic Four, among others. His last creation was She-Hulk, the protagonist in Marvel’s latest series on Disney Plus.

Lee began his journey of cameos in Marvel projects back in 1989 when he first appeared in The Trial of the Incredible Hulk. He has since appeared in multiple cameo roles, and over the years fans anticipated his appearance in Marvel projects. He has had a cameo in almost every film in the MCU. His first MCU appearance was in 2008’s Iron Man and his final one, which featured a digitally de-aged version of him, was in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, making a total of 22 cameos.

After the creator’s death in 2018, and his posthumous appearances in Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame, the studio decided it was time to lay the cameos to rest. While fans have missed seeing Lee in the MCU films and series that have released since, the studio has stood by its decision and policy to not include any more Lee cameos. But, with the upcoming documentary, fans will get to see Stan "The Man" on their screens once again.

Stan Lee Original Documentary is in production at Marvel Studios and is scheduled to premiere on Disney Plus in 2023.
