The Warhammer games are great. They play in a bunch of different ways, allowing different types of players to enjoy these games. The franchise has also made a name for itself in pop culture, not just in gaming, but in other media, like toy lines. Even though the games have transcended genres, there's still unknown territory for the series to go. First-person shooters are the genre that the Warhammer games have perfected, and Warhammer 40K: Darktide is a perfect example. Gameplay-wise, anything can happen as hordes of enemies attack the team.

Not every player is the same, as each of them picks a class that has unique abilities. While Warhammer 40K: Darktide has some issues, the combat makes players feel powerful. Players can use powerful ranged weapons, but the melee weapons are the ones that will help them more when things get tough. Each class can use melee weapons, but some are more powerful than others. Regardless of which class players pick, these are the best melee weapons they can get in Warhammer 40K: Darktide.

5 Cadia Mk IV Assault Chainsword

One of the things that Warhammer: 40K: Darktide does better than Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is ammo scarcity, so falling back on a melee weapon is a good idea. The Cadia Chainsword is a good option for that. While it can slice any enemy in half and has a large amount of damage, the best part about this weapon is its ability to hit several enemies at once. This makes it easy for players to keep enemies further away.

It can do heavy damage to armored and bigger enemies. After a player has taken a massive chunk of health, the rest of the team can easily take down that enemy as well. It's a great melee weapon to have for all classes, and it's really balanced and easy to use. Also, if players rev while using the chainsword, they can kill a single enemy with one rev, making it a fun weapon to use as well.

4 Antax Mk V Combat Axe

The Antax is one of the better axes, if not the best ax, that players can get in Warhammer 40K: Darktide. It's quick, easy to use, and has great damage. The first strike with this ax deals tons of damage, so attacking smaller enemies or bigger ones will help the team overall. However, as mentioned before, it does have great damage even after the first strike. It can cut through hordes of enemies with ease.

Being a light ax, it allows players to hit more often and remain mobile at the same time. All classes benefit from the amazing qualities this ax has. Using this ax against the bosses can be ideal, provided players have backup as well. Overall, it's a great ax to have throughout the game, and players should upgrade the Antax Axe when they can.

3 Rashad MK II Combat Axe

This massive ax is good for huge amounts of damage as well. While not as quick as the Antax ax mentioned above, the holder of this weapon will be a threat and a great help to the team. If players use Orgyn (which is the tank class of Warhammer 40K: Darktide) they can benefit from this even more. Since this class can take a lot of damage, players can run in, dish out some hard hits, and then run out, making the rest of the team follow up.

The main aspect of this ax is that if players hit consistently, the damage stacks, which allows them to kill more enemies. Most stages in Warhammer 40K: Darktide has parts where players have to defend a point, like they do in the espionage part. This means that players will need to defend the data point, so if players stay near the point and consistently attack with this ax, things get easier.

2 Catachan Mk I “Devil’s Claw” Sword

The Zealot Preacher class plays like a tank and a sharpshooter, but can be more versatile if played right. The Zealot is great for close-range melee attacks, which can be devastating. This class needs a weapon to show off how powerful and resourceful it can be. And that comes in the form of the Catachan Sword.

Nicknamed the Devil's Claw because of its high cleave damage, this weapon can hit multiple enemies at once, and push enemies further away. If players use the horizontal move with this sword, they can slice through several enemies at once. While a strong sword for any class, the Zealot class will be a particular threat with this sword. They are the best at crowd control, and this sword can help with that.

1 Crucis Mk II Thunder Hammer

A somewhat slow hammer in Warhammer 40K: Darktide, players using a tank or a class that's good on melee can feel strong with this weapon. Although slow, the hammer has enormous damage output, so if players time their attacks, they can take down enemies easily. Unlike the swords and axes featured on this list, the hammer won't slice through enemies, but it will instantly kill them.

Using this weapon against the hordes is rather easy. Players should use this hammer against the bigger enemies and bosses. Most bosses will have armor, and this hammer has great stats for armor penetration, to the point where they can down enemies with a few swings. If the team leaves the bigger enemies and bosses to the mercy of the player with the big hammer, getting through each stage comes with ease.

Warhammer 40K: Darktide is available now on PC and is in development on the Xbox Series X/S.
