Baldur’s Gate 3 has a new update, "Holy Knight", a special stream today, and some significant announcements. Last week, at The Game Awards,Larian Studios announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 would be launching next August. The new patch includes the Paladin class, the ability to progress to level 5, and a reworked Reactions system, among other updates.

Following last week's trailer and the launch date announcement, the team has also announced that the beloved character of Minsc will be voiced by prolific voice actor Matthew Mercer.

Paladins are a classic, mixing the ability to unleash combos and take down enemies as well as provide support and protection to your party. One of the most valuable teammates you have around, and there are two subclasses that come standard with the class: Oath of Devotion and Oath of the Ancients.

Yet, there’s another option. The new hidden Paladin subclass, Oathbreaker, is also available, and the team describes the choices involved this way.

“What happens to a Paladin who forsakes that sacred promise? Can there be redemption? A hidden Paladin subclass, Oathbreaker, gives players the opportunity to explore this path.”

The opportunity to find out and becoming an oath-breaker has its own advantages and disadvantages, so you can shape your playstyle the way you want.

The reaction system is also been revamped and you'll be able to choose whether you want to use a reaction when one is triggered, so you don't have to going forward. When you use reactions, which are triggered by different circumstances in combat, they do often present a good opportunity, but now sometimes holding back might be a better option.

There was a special live stream today, where the team showed off all things Patch 9, from the Paladin, to what reaching level 5 means, and the new Reactions options.
