Alfheim is one of several realms to feature in both of Kratos' Norse-themed adventures, with players visiting the Temple of Light in both 2018's God of War and its 2022 sequel, God of War Ragnarok. In addition to visiting the temple in the fourth chapter of Ragnarok, players will also get to see a bit more of Alfheim on their second visit to the realm, with a few new areas available a little later on in the game.

While working towards the Secret of the Sands favor, players will find themselves in an area called The Barrens, where they'll need to find a way underground in order to quell a vicious sandstorm. By heading into one of the structures here, they'll find themselves heading down into the depths of The Below. There, as well as the creature that's causing the sandstorm up above them, they'll also find one of God of War Ragnarok's 35 Nornir Chests.

How to Unlock The Below Nornir Chest

As they make their way through the fairly linear pathways of The Below, players will eventually come to a bell next to a wooden gate that cannot be opened from this side. The Below Nornir Chest is on the other side of this gate, so players hoping to open it will need to find a way through. Thankfully, however, following the main pathway will eventually lead them to the other side, where they can then begin trying to figure out how to unlock the chest.

As indicated by the bell they saw earlier, opening this Nornir Chest will require players to ring three bells by hitting them with Kratos' Leviathan Axe. One of the three bells is right next to the chest, while another is just on the other side of the now unlockable wooden gate that players were on the other side of a little earlier. The third bell can actually be seen up in a nearby window from right by the chest too, though players won't actually be able to ring it from here.

To get to a spot where they can ring the third bell, players will need to head back outside and use the Twilight Stone up above them to deflect Kratos' Leviathan Axe so that it destroys the red Hive Matter nearby. This will allow players to use the blue grapple points to follow the path up and around and into the building containing the third bell. Players can then open the door and prepare to ring the bells.

It's easiest to start with the third bell and then head down to the other two. This is because the third bell has a longer ring than the others, providing players with a bit more time to get to the other two than they'd have if they went in a different order. If they mess up, they'll be able to climb back up and try again until they get it right. Once they do, they'll be able to open the chest, wherein they'll find either an Idunn Apple or a Horn of Blood Mead; assuming, that is, that they haven't already opened 30 Nornir Chests.

God of War Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.
