The Transformers has some of the most iconic characters in pop culture from Optimus Prime to Bumblebee to Megatron to Starscream. But, with so many of the iconic characters from Transformers lore already appearing in the movies already. Which characters can fans expect to see appearing in Transformers: Rise of The Beasts?

What characters are going to be in Transformers Rise of the Beasts?

Autobots:

Optimus Prime

This one feels obvious in that, can you really have a Transformers movie, especially one set in the 1990’s, without Optimus Prime.

As The Autobots heroic leader has, arguably, been the face of the franchise, and its most recognisable character ever since the brand began in 1984.

Now, in Rise of the Beasts, as seen in the movie’s first trailer, we’ll see Optimus coming face to face with his counterpart on The Maximals team, Optimus Primal, as the two must work together to stop the threat of new villain, Scourge.

Bumblebee

Second only to Optimus Prime in terms of fan love and recognition. Everyone’s favourite Autobot scout makes a very welcome return in Rise of the Beasts.

Following on from the events of his own movie, 2018’s Bumblebee. Rise of the Beasts sees Bumblebee reunited with his fellow Autobots once more as they prepare to defend the earth from the threat of new villain, Scourge, and The Terrorcons.

Arcee

First introduced in 1986’s Transformers: The Movie, and last seen in Bumblebee. Fan favourite, Arcee, makes her welcome return in Rise of the Beasts.

And, thankfully, based on the movie’s first trailer, it seems that unlike her appearances in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and Bumblebee, where she was merely a cameo. Arcee will be a featured character in Rise of the Beasts and hopefully an important character to the events of the movie as well.

Mirage

Another of the original generation of Transformers characters, Mirage makes his long awaited returned in Rise of the Beasts, sporting a look more akin to his original 1984 animation and toy design, after sporting a bright red appearance in 2011’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Fans of the heroic Autobot can look forward to him, seemingly, based on the movie’s first trailer, playing a bigger role in Rise of the Beasts than he played in Dark of the Moon.

With several moments in the trailer showing what appears to be a key chase sequence in the movie with Mirage being chased by a squadron of police cars.

Wheeljack

Autobot scientist and trusted friend and ally of Optimus Prime and his fellow Autobot members, Wheeljack is another fan favourite character dating right back to the original animated series and toy line, and a character fans are sure to be happy to see on the big screen once more.

As with Arcee and Mirage, hopefully, we will see Wheeljack getting plenty of screen time with a role matching his importance in the original animated Transformers series.

Stratosphere

A relatively new character to the Transformers movie universe in comparison to his Autobot compatriots. Stratosphere has the ability to transform into a large cargo plane, making him invaluable when the Autobots need to get several warriors to a location quickly.

Maximals:

Optimus Primal

First introduced in 1996’s Beast Wars: Transformers. Optimus Primal, as his name implies, is the leader of the heroic Maximals, a race of Cybertonian Transformers who, unlike their Autobot counterparts, take the forms of animals rather than vehicles when they transform.

Primal, as seen in Rise of the Beasts first trailer, is the one who alerts Optimus Prime to the threat of Scourge, before being seen taking part in what looks to be a truly epic battle, likely near the movies’ end.

Airazor

Joining Primal as part of the Maximals is their air reconnaisance expert, Airazor. First introduced later in the run of the original Beast Wars: Transformers animated series. Airazor proved to be an invaluable ally to the Maximals with a strong family bond to Rhinox and Cheetor who saved her after her stasis pod was damaged when it crashed to Earth.

Rhinox

The ever dependable and wise Rhinox, a key member of the Maximals in the original Beast Wars animated series and toy line makes his live action debut in Rise of the Beasts. While it’d be easy to dismiss Rhinox as just the Maximal’s muscle, enemies would do so at their pleasure. As this strong but gentle giant is in fact one of the most intelligent members of the Maximals and incredibly tech savvy.

Cheetor

Cheetor is another of the original Maximal characters from both the original animated Beast Wars: Transformers series and toy line. As one of the younger members of the Maximals team, Cheetor served as the audience character for a lot of young fans. With his youthful exuberance and impulsivity often getting him into more trouble than it got him out of.

He’s a fan favourite character that many viewers will be glad to see on screen, with at least one epic moment, where we see him running alongside Bumblebee, shown already in the movie’s first trailer.

Terrorcons:

Scourge

Traditionally, the right hand and most loyal warrior of the evil Galvatron (the reborn form of Megatron), it appears that for Rise of the Beasts, Scourge is either getting a new character backstory, or is a brand new character entirely.

Scourge is set to be the main antagonist and threat of the movie, that brings the Autobots and Maximals together. But, given Scourge’s background in Transformers history, is he the real threat, or merely the herald of an even greater threat?

The Decepticons:

Nightbird

Nightbird in Transformers lore is a human created robot that often aligns herself with the villainous Decepticons, and although it’s not been confirmed, yet. It is entirely plausible that we will see Nightbird created by an early iteration of N.E.S.T. as a human aligned robot that instead turns on her creators.

Battletrap

The second of the possible Decepticon characters revealed for the movie so far (at the time of writing). Battletrap, in Transformers lore, is somewhat unique among the Decepticons in that he is a Duocon. Meaning that when transformed into his alternate vehicle form, he becomes two separate Decepticon robots called Battleslash and Roadtrap, that he can control to work in co-operation with each other.

Unknown Robot Faction:

Reek

Not much is known at the moment about Reek other than they are another Cybertronian robot, possibly a member of the Terrorcons faction.

Humans

Noah

Noah is a brand new character who gets caught up in the Autobots’ fight with Scourge and has been described as being a young man who is ex-military, who now looks out for his little brother, and can fix almost anything electronic.

Elena

Not much is known yet about Elena other than that she is a museum researcher who becomes crucial to helping the Autobots deal with the threat posed by new villain, Scourge.
