World of Warcraft: Classic is famous as an MMO, but at its heart, WoW is also an RPG game and players build their characters with unique histories and talents. Every character in Azeroth has to have a profession, and many choose one that gives them the ability to craft special consumables, expensive potions, elixirs, or high-level gear.

Some of these professions are better suited to some classes than others. There's a reason that almost every Mage or Warlock in Dalaran is a Tailor. The profession doesn't just give the player the skill to make their own gear but other unique and fun items as well.

Tailors have yet another important advantage in retail. They are the only class that can make bandages, a twist from Classic, where First Aid is a secondary profession that anyone can have.

6 Crafting BiS Gear

It's true that Leatherworkers and Blacksmiths get some perks here as well, but what was already a big advantage for Tailors in The Burning Crusade expansion got ramped up even more in Wrath of the Lich King. There are always the sets that drop in raids and dungeons and that are exchanged for badges, but until then, Tailors can make a lot of their endgame gear.

Virtually all of the pre-raid best-in-slot items for players in Northrend that are hoping to raid have a crafted option, and some of the patterns are extremely difficult to get, so this is a different kind of challenge. The Chillwind Cloak and Wispcloak patterns, which are BiS for Warlocks, Mages, and Priests, are only available after the player has finished certain Achievements.

5 More Bag Space

There will never be any lack of controversy and debate over which items in World of Warcraft are the most valuable, but the answer is always the same in the end. As it often is in the RPG world, extra bag space is priceless, and Tailors are the ones that make the bags. It's bags, not the gear, that make up most of the Tailor's income.

The patterns for larger bags, in the case of WoW which means anything bigger than 18, are often difficult to get or extremely expensive. The Glacial Bag, one of the few 22-slot storage items in the game, is only available once a character is Exalted with the Sons of Hodir. Tailors can also make specialty bags for professional uses, like Soul bags for Warlock soulshards or Gem Bags for Miners and Jewelcrafters.

4 Room For Another Profession

Jewelcrafters and Blacksmiths need Mining for ore, and Alchemists or Inscriptionists need plants for ink. However, Tailoring doesn't require a second gathering profession to find and collect resources. All Tailors have to do is what everyone else does, and that's loot enemy bodies. The Auction House is also an option and cloth isn't expensive.

Tailors collect cloth from fallen enemies and chests, along other places, and don't need to take up Herbalism or Mining. Tailors are free to take up two professions, which is why there are so many Tailors who are also Enchanters. These are the only two professions that don't require the player to hunt for raw materials.

3 Embroidery, Spellthread, And Cloth Scavenging

Additions to the Tailoring profession in the WotLK expansion made it even better. New Tailoring skills like Embroidery and Spellthread allow Tailors to handle their own Enchanting needs for certain pieces of gear, provided they have the recipes and materials. It's also required to be at least Revered with the Kirin Tor faction in Dalaran to buy the patterns.

Cloth Scavenging is a new passive ability that was introduced when players went to Northrend. This allows those in the Tailoring profession to scourge more cloth than others who might have different skills, so Tailors get even more resources from looting corpses, fishing, or from treasure chests.

2 "Vanilla Transmog"

Duskhaven Transmog WOW

Transmogrification is one of the most popular aspects of retail WoW, but the concept doesn't exist in the Classic version. The best a character can do is hunt down the rare patterns or expensive mats and make their own unique costume. This is especially beneficial on Classic RP servers when characters need clothes for special events like holidays or weddings.

It's not just formal wear like tuxedos or gowns, either. Need a pair of overalls for a fishing set? Maybe a character wants a fancy hat or suit for a world event. Ask a Tailor.

1 Take You Anywhere, With Time To Spare

Engineers are the only other class that can make their mount, and the Mechano-hog is a nice set of wheels that has the big advantage of being bind-on-equip so other professions can also use them. The selection of magic carpets, however, are not only made by Tailors but only Tailors can use them.

There are two different kinds of flying carpets that Tailors can make and ride. Like conventional mounts, they come in both regular and epic varieties. The regular one is made from an Outland pattern and requires a 300-level Tailoring skill and Expert Riding. The Magnificent Flying Carpet is the epic pattern from Northrend and requires Artisan riding and a Tailoring skill of 425.

World of Warcraft is currently available on PC.
