Cyberpunk 2077 has no shortage of side jobs and gigs available, many of which offer impressive rewards. The “Spellbound” side job in Cyberpunk 2077 is no exception. It pays out a large sum of eddies and, if done right, unlocks a legendary crafting recipe for one of the best quickhacks in the game. In this side job, V is contracted by Nix to purchase a certain spellbook simply called “The Book of Spells.” It’s currently held by a corpo, and Nix is dubious of her intentions. Follow these steps to complete the mission and find out if he’s right to be so skeptical.

How to Obtain the Spellbound Side Job

Nix preparing to offer V the mission

To obtain this side job, the player needs to finish “Ghost Town.” After some time has passed, players can revisit the Afterlife, and Nix will reach out to inform them that he has a job available.

Spellbound Side Job Walkthrough

The description for the start of the Spellbound side job

Follow these steps to complete the Spellbound side job:

  1. Head to Nix, who’s in a backroom at the Afterlife.
  2. Talk to Nix to learn about a spellbook that he found someone trying to sell online. He wants V to buy it for him in case there’s any trouble. The contact’s alias is R3n0.
  3. Leave the Afterlife and call R3n0.
  4. R3n0 will curtly relay an address and demand that V comes alone.
  5. Head to the address and meet with R3n0 in an upscale corpo bar. She’ll inform V that the spellbook is stashed away somewhere secure.
The contact offers the goods at a price.
  6. There are a couple ways to get the coordinates to the stash from R3n0, but this is far from being the hardest choice V makes in Cyberpunk. Whichever you choose, keep in mind that she’s armed with a Palica shotgun and has control over the camera system around V:
    • Access the laptop that’s next to her on the bar. To get around the code on the laptop, Jack In and apply at least one Datamine Daemon. Of the four files on the laptop, one has the coordinates to the spellbook, and another two inform V that R3n0’s real name is Clarity. She works for Hard Wire Ltd. who tasked her with copying the spellbook and destroying it, which isn’t what she chose to do…

    • Pay her 7,300 eddies. Paid her due, she’ll simply flick V the coordinates. Giving her grief over being a small-time con does nothing but affront her dignity.
  7. Head to the coordinates and open the pink suitcase there to find an old-school tablet called “The Book of Spells.” Johnny, always the cool anti-hero, describes it as being top-of-the-line back in his day. Loot it.
  8. It’s possible to hack the spellbook before bringing it back to Nix. This results in unlocking the spellbook and gaining a crafting recipe for the legendary System Reset quickhack. This quickhack is especially useful. It has a passive effect that reduces RAM costs after defeating an enemy which stacks up to six times.

To hack "The Book of Spells," follow these optional instructions:
    1. Find the Spellbook shard listed under an unnamed category at the bottom of the Shards menu.
    2. Press the input button for Crack Security. This will open a Breach Protocol screen.
    3. Only the third and fourth Datamine Daemons need to be uploaded. The code for the spellbook is the same in any playthrough. Here’s the code sequence for The Book of Spells:

  9. Return to Nix to give him the spellbook. While turning in the mission, it’s possible to bully Nix into paying significantly more for the Spellbook (11,200 vs. 16,000). This requires an Intelligence of at least 9.

What to do Next

kold mirage location

Completing “Spellbound” is a necessary prerequisite for another mission Nix offers: “Kold Mirage.” To get started on that side job, simply head to the place in the Badlands where V had a fateful encounter with Dexter Deshawn and Takemura. Alternatively, “Kold Mirage” can be started by reading the Notice of Expiration shard that can be found during “Many Ways to Skin a Cat.” Otherwise, take part in any of the other great side jobs Cyberpunk has to offer.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
