PlanetSide 2  first launched on PC on November 20, 2012, and Rogue Planet Games has kicked off a 10th anniversary update to celebrate.

The anniversary update is a pretty packed one, offering a new facility capture mechanic, some visual updates, balance changes, and some events. first up, the team is offering a special anniversary decal for all.

On the anniversary itself, this Sunday, November 20th, there will be an Ultimate Empire Showdown competitive stream over on the PlanetSide 2 Twitch channel with community creators. Also live now is a double experience weekend, where everyone gets double XP through November 20th. Members get an additional double XP weekend from November 25-27th as part of the slate of subscription benefits, but this means two weeks of double XP for some.

There are some bases all around Auraxis with a new mechanic patterned after capture the flag. This is called Capture the Conduit, so you should have an idea what your goal will be. Conduit outposts need to be captured or defended, and it will work like this:

Attacking a Conduit Outpost goes like so.

  • Hack a Repo.
  • Steal a Conduit.
  • Deposit the Conduit into the Repo.
  • Repeat.

Defending a Conduit Outpost goes similarly.

  • Re-secure hacked Repos.
  • Return stolen Conduits.
  • Repeat

The team does have a much more detailed description to get everyone on the same page as to how to learn the way the new mechanic looks and feels. Conduits and outposts each have some timers to control the flow of things, and to make sure it remains competitive. Outposts also have strikes, meaning you’ll have a couple of chances to defend, or need a few chances to attack, them.

There are a number of updates to several bases. The Bastion Fleet carrier gets a role adjustment that will see it more in use for map control. Additionally, there are graphical improvements and texture updates across the map, improved water reflections in Oshur, and more.

For details, head over to PlanetSide 2.
