One of the most popular ways you could get a Shiny was restart the game over and over until you finally got one. Given the extremely low probability of getting one, players would sometimes need to restart hundreds of times. But does this trick work in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet? Let’s find out.

Sadly, restarting the game over and over will not get you a Shiny Pokémon. It appears the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet starters are locked, which will come as no surprise as this has been the way for the last few Pokémon games. For example, the starters in Pokémon Legends: Arceus – Decidueye, Typhlosion, and Samurott – were all Shiny locked, too.

There’s no point trying as it’s likely been hard coded into the game, but the good news is that there is a simple breeding system in the game that you can use to get a Shiny.

To acquire one, you need to start hatching eggs, which which can be done via the Pokémon Picnic feature. All you need to do is pair two compatible male and female Pokémon and eggs will be created. If you get lucky, one of the 10 eggs held in the basket will contain a Shiny Pokémon.

For now, this is the only way to get Shiny Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet.
