Evil West PS5 Performance

Super promising action-shooter Evil West is out next week on PS5 and PS4, and we're very much looking forward to giving it a go. However, the game's graphical options — particularly on Sony's current-gen console — leave something to be desired.

These options were just recently confirmed by publisher Focus Home Interactive, and they've triggered a bit of a backlash amongst hardcore PlayStation fans. On PS5, players will have to choose between a quality mode pushing 2160p at 30 frames-per-second, or a performance mode which cuts the resolution all the way down to 1080p so the game can hit 60 frames-per-second.

Most performance modes on PS5 target a higher base resolution, or employ the magic of dynamic resolution to keep things looking sharp, so Evil West's sacrifice in this department is a disappointment. It's obviously a very action-heavy title, so you'll probably want that (hopefully) smooth 60fps — but on a 4K TV, 1080p can look decidedly muddy these days. PS5 users will have a decision to make, then.

Meanwhile, PS4 and PS4 Pro get a standard 1080p at 30fps, with the Pro offering "improved graphical quality".

What do you make of this? Are you okay with 1080p, or did you expect better on PS5? Lock and load in the comments section below.
