Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players with early copies or ROMs find out the best shiny hunting method in the game, which uses sandwiches and mass outbreaks. In the past week or so, multiple leaks have started to appear online as more and more players got early access to their Pokemon Scarlet and Violet copies, but also thanks to ROMs and datamining, which ended up unveiling plenty of key pieces of information. Among the first leaks were Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's starter evolutions, as well as some other critters, such as Smoliv's first evolution, Paldean Tauros, and more.

Eventually, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's entire Pokedex was leaked, and fans of the series could take an early look at the various pocket monsters coming with Gen 9, including the many Paradox Pokemon in the game. Version exclusives were also revealed, as well as all the stats, move pools, Abilities, and Hidden Abilities for every single Gen 9 Pokemon in the game and returning critters as well. Another important detail comes in the form of the starters being shiny-locked, meaning that soft-resetting the game to find a shiny one will never yield this outcome.

However, there are multiple ways to hunt for shinies in Gen 9, and the most effective method seems to include making sandwiches with three pieces of Herba Mystica. This causes mass outbreaks in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet that look like Pokemon Legends: Arceus', and they appear wherever players go after consuming the sandwich. Based on the recipes used, players will have different levels of boosts to shiny rates, with level 3 seemingly being the highest one, and one that can only be obtained by using Herba Mystica.

In order to find Herba Mystica, which is first introduced in the Path of Legends where players defeat Paldea's Titan Pokemon, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trainers will have to beat 5-star Tera Raids. It's worth noting that there are multiple different types of Herba Mystica, and they are not guaranteed drops from Tera Raid battles, which apparently have a large loot pool. It's also unclear whether players will be able to get it from 6-star and 7-star Tera Raids, but it seems likely based on the way progression is handled in Gen 9.

According to those who have the game already, this shiny hunting method can yield up to four shiny Pokemon per hour, even though this is a rough estimate based on a rather small sample, and actual numbers may change. It's also worth pointing out that, based on the leaks, the base odds to encounter a shiny Pokemon are 1 in 4096, but Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players completing the Pokedex will receive the Shiny Charm to increase said odds.

As such, the ideal method would be to set up a picnic in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, do so in an area where their preferred shinies can be found, and consume a sandwich with level 3 boosts. Thus, combined with a Shiny Charm and mass outbreaks, players should be able to find shiny critters consistently for the next 30 minutes, after which another picnic would be needed to refresh the sandwich's timer.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release on November 18 for Nintendo Switch.
