Destiny 2's latest hotfix, build version 6.2.0.8, released to minimal fanfare only for Bungie to then clarify that it most certainly wasn't used to release a new batch of secret content. Though it's been a while since the game's community last needed to work together to solve a mystery, some of Destiny's defining moments were driven specifically by secret releases and encounters.

Namely, Destiny 2 hasn't had a major new secret mission in years at this point, and the community is always ready to jump onto a new mystery. Whereas the majority of Destiny 2's hotfixes are largely unexceptional, reading into their respective patch notes can sometimes lead to suggestions of something interesting happening in the background, and hotfix 6.2.0.8 in particular seems to stand out in this respect.

For many Guardians, unlocking the Whisper of the Worm in Destiny 2 was a highlight activity made all the more interesting by the fact that it launched as a big secret that got the community looking for answers in a frenzy. The fact that hotfix 6.2.0.8 specifically says that "there are no hidden quests or things being added," is therefore more than enough to get dedicated community members to seek out answers. "If you want to go hunting, feel free," says the changelog, which Community Manager dmg04 eventually responded to as well.

According to dmg04, the hotfix description is indeed true, with no major new additions being introduced into the game. "Truly just a test," he said, adding that the only actual patch note would've been an updated version number for the game, which would've looked even more suspicious to the secret-minded community members. Dmg04 previously chimed in on Destiny 2 weapon crafting feedback, and he's usually the point of contact between Bungie itself and the Destiny community, giving him plenty of credence.

Of course, it may still pay to ask some questions. Dmg04 claims that the only change made was the game's new version number, but it's still puzzling that Bungie would push out a hotfix that does nothing but change a number. There's an awful lot of hype surrounding Destiny 2's secret missions, such as the currently unavailable Zero Hour, but nothing seems to be happening on that front.

Secrets or no secrets, Destiny fans still have much to look forward to as the Season of Plunder's narrative is winding down. Specifically, Destiny 2's Festival of the Lost is about to start very soon, and it's certainly possible that Bungie has a few surprises in store for the community on top of the usual Halloween festivities.

Destiny 2 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
