The Perk System is one of the most notable differences between the Call of Duty franchise and other FPS like Battlefield or Squad. And that's because players have complete freedom to create their own unique Class that fits their playstyle. But, of course, there have been some Perks that many in the fanbase deemed overpowered and even unfair. For example, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (2009) had the Perk "Last Stand," which allowed a player to use a pistol while bleeding out before death.

And in more recent titles, Dead Silence has been a Perk that most players hate since it makes an enemy player completely silent. Fortunately, Infinity Ward has decided to change the Perk System in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 by adding a couple of extra requirements to combat "overpowered" Perks. So, players who want to dominate Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Beta will want to learn which ones are the best.

Best Base Perk

Base Perks are active from the start of a match, so players must ensure they choose perks that will help them throughout the entire match (only two can be used at a time). Most of the Base Perks available in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Beta have been a staple in the previous Call of Duty titles, so picking the right ones should be a no-brainer.

E.O.D

A well-thrown explosive like a Semtex Grenade or Drill Grenade can ruin a day for any hardcore Call of Duty player. And since these Lethal types of equipment are the norm in any Call of Duty, players must prepare accordingly. That's why E.O.D is one of the best Base Perks players should equip while playing Modern Warfare 2. This Base Perk significantly reduces the damage non-Killstreak explosives make and resets fuse timers when picking up live grenades.

Battle Hardened

Nothing is worse than being stunned by a Stun Grenade, as it leaves players vulnerable. On top of that, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 re-introduced the Tactical Equipment "Shock Charge," forcing players to empty their magazine clip and preventing tactical sprint. Fortunately, IW has included Battle Hardened as a Base Perk, reducing the effect of enemy Flash, Stun, EMP, Gas Grenades, and Shock Sticks while making players immune to Snapshot Grenades.

Best Bonus Perks

Players can only equip one Bonus Perk per Perk Package, and it only becomes available after the first four minutes of a match or respawn. Players can activate it sooner by getting kills or capturing/defending objectives. Since this is the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Beta, only two Bonus Perks are worth using.

Fast Hands

One of the biggest (and most controversial) changes Infinity Ward made was removing Reload Canceling, which is canceling the Reload Animation. That means players must wait until the entire animation finishes before they can shoot again. So to counter that new gameplay mechanic, players should consider using Fast Hands as their Bonus Perk since it increases Reload speed and allows players to swap weapons faster.

Quick Fix

It's no secret that Infinity Ward decreased the overall TTK (Time to Kill) of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, meaning bullets hit harder than in previous titles (even more than Call of Duty: Vanguard). And since players can't access the Medical Syringe yet during the Beta (unlocks at Rank 17), healing is difficult. Players can use the Quick Fix Bonus Perk to increase their chances of survival since killing players triggers health regeneration. Furthermore, capturing and holding objectives increases health regeneration.

Best Ultimate Perks

Ultimate Perks Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Beta

Perhaps the most divisive change IW made to the franchise is Ultimate Perks which only become available after eight minutes in a match. Players can earn these perks faster by getting Kills or playing the objective as with Bonus Perks. But, the real issue players have with this new perk system is that one of the best (and most useful) Perks of all time is locked behind a timer, Ghost.

Ghost

Undoubtedly, Ghost is a must-have Ultimate Perk since it makes a player undetectable by UAVs, Portable Radars, and Heartbeat Sensors. And since getting UAVs is the easiest Killstreak/Scorestreak in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Beta, odds are there will be a constant flow of UAVs flying the skies. So, the only way players can counter UAVs (that doesn't involve shooting them down or using a Counter UAV) is by having Ghost as an Ultimate Perk. But, player should be aware that enemy players will still be able to hear their footsteps.

Bird's-Eye

As for players that consider themselves above average, being invisible to the enemy isn't crucial for their survival but knowing where they are is. That's when Bird's-Eye comes in handy since UAVs and Radars now ping the enemy's direction (instead of a circle, it's an arrow). Furthermore, when a player earns Bird's-Eye, it'll ping enemies on the mini-map, regardless if there is a UAV or Radar. This Ultimate Perk is especially useful in round-based game modes like Search and Destroy or Prisoner Rescue. The mini-map will also be zoomed out, providing the player with a better view of the enemies positions.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches on October 28 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
