Upcoming Soulslike Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has a PvP mechanic that allows certain enemies to summon other players. Only announced back in June of this year, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a game from Nioh series developer Team Ninja. Featuring a dark take on the mythology of the Three Kingdoms, with a specific focus on the 14th Century historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has the player battle against mythical creatures in fast-paced combat with both magical abilities and a variety of weapons.

Despite Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty only being revealed recently, plenty of information has already been shown off about the game. The first gameplay trailer was unveiled in late August, and a demo for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty became available in September, allowing players to experience the combat in the game and fight one of its bosses. However, there are still plenty of details that gamers don't know about Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

Producer Masaki Yamagiwa is looking to divulge some more information about the game, especially how certain enemies work. Speaking in a recent interview with NextGen Player during TGS, Yamagiwa stated that there will be PvP in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. PvP was available in the Nioh games, but fans found it to be somewhat of a lukewarm experience. However, it seems that Wo Long will change the way PvP works. There will be invasions similar to From Software's games, as well as an interesting mechanic revolving around enemies being able to spawn in NPC allies or other players.

This won't result in one-on-one duels necessarily, as players can choose simply to take on the "big enemy," as Yamagiwa describes it, in order to get rid of every threat. However, this certainly marks an interesting way for players to engage in PvP in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, while also showing how the upcoming Soulslike has borrowed a mechanic from FromSoftware's iconic franchise. Some NPCs and enemies in Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 2 were able to summon players to attack the host. In Elden Ring this feature returned through the Fia's Champions boss fight and the warriors summoned by the Great Jar in Caelid.

For those fearing that every enemy they run into in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will summon an army of other NPCs and players, it seems that these foes will be limited to certain areas. Even with their limited appearances, these enemies are likely to provide a unique challenge for the player. Alongside talking about new enemies, Yamagiwa also discussed how long players should take to beat Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will be released in early 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
