Pokemon introduced the concept of Shiny pocket monsters during the second Generation of the series. These rare creatures added more for players to strive for and added another step to catching them all. Shiny Pokemon have become a staple in the franchise, as every pocket monster that releases now has one of these alternate colors.

A number of players hunt for Shiny Pokemon, trying to fill their teams and collections with the special creatures. This can take a lot of time and effort, especially when it comes to legendary Pokemon. This shows through one gamer who put in a significant amount of time trying to capture a Shiny Xerneas.

A Redditor named Reasonable_Towel_298 posted a video showcasing them capturing a Shiny form of the legendary Pokemon Xerneas during one of Pokemon Sword and Shield's Dynamax Adventures. The clip shows the gamer's Pokeball absorb the pocket monster and perform the capture checks. The ball clicks closed and the menu that allows gamers to choose which Pokemon they will keep from the Dynamax Adventure comes up. It is then shown that the player chooses the Shiny Xerneas. According to Reasonable_Towel_298, capturing the creature took them 26 hours over the course of five days, showing how much dedication it sometimes takes to capture a Shiny Pokemon.

Some Redditors seem to be able to relate to Reasonable_Towel_298. One user stated that they have been attempting to capture a Shiny Tapu Lele since the DLC for Pokemon Sword and Shield released, while another mentioned that they are in the midst of obtaining a Shiny Xerneas themselves. A Redditor said that the first Xerneas they captured in the Dynamax Adventures was a Shiny, but that they have not seen any other legendary in their alternate colors since. The experiences that these gamers had shows how rare it can be to run into certain Shiny Pokemon and the determination some need to finally be able to capture them.

A gamer known as youroldpaljosh on TikTok posted a video showcasing them obtaining a Totodile in its Shiny colors in Pokemon Crystal. The player stated that he had to restart the game over 1,400 times in order to finally score the Shiny Totodile, though his video only shows the last few attempts. Youroldpaljosh admitted that after 1,400 tries, continuing on to score the Shiny starter was an act of hubris. But the TikTok user's success does show where a bit of perseverance can get a gamer with a goal in mind.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are available now for the Nintendo Switch.
