When it comes to video games, developers may sneak in a few great Easter eggs from their previous titles, favorite forms of media, or homages to other games altogether. Easter eggs are no secret when it comes to media, especially video games, which have a plethora of surprises featured as a joke or a bonus. Saints Row is certainly a franchise known for its Easter eggs.

There are plenty of Easter eggs in Saints Row (2022), and some that die-hard gamers may find themselves chuckling at or recognizing. Some of the best Saints Row Easter eggs are featured in this reboot, with many more being discovered day by day.

9 Zombie Uprising

Fans of Saints Row 2 may remember the minigame Zombie Uprising. This minigame saw players have an objective of killing 345 zombies, with six waves increasing the number to kill, whilst also making the enemies harder. Although the minigame did not return for later titles, zombies featured in Saints Row: The Third as part of the story, but Zombie Uprising only existed as an arcade cabinet.

Players of the original Saints Row franchise may have hoped to see Zombie Uprising return as an activity or a minigame, but instead, Saints Row (2022) once again features the game as a fun Easter egg in an arcade cabinet.

8 Saints Of Rage

As a homage to the classic video game Streets of Rage, Saints Row 4 featured a game in a similar style called Saints of Rage. This minigame was the playable mission for Welcome Back and saw The Boss help the iconic Johnny Gat return to life. Saints Row’s Johnny Gat is an iconic character and only returns in 2022’s Saints Row as the mascot character for Saints of Rage.

This arcade machine features the same gameplay seen in Saints Row 4 and could just be a fun Easter egg. However, it may imply something more, that perhaps the fan favorite Johnny Gat remains in Saints of Rage, waiting for completion so that he may rejoin the land of the living.

7 Cabbit

There’s an unofficial mascot to the Saints Row series with the peculiar stuffed animal of the Cabbit. This cat/rabbit hybrid features as an Easter egg in Saints Row 2, Saints Row: The Third, and Saints Row 4. For the Saints Row reboot, the Cabbit once again returns in a storage facility, and rather largely too.

There are plenty of Cabbits in the Saints Row franchise, with some games even featuring over 60 of them. It’s a fun Easter egg, with one island in Saints Row 2 featuring a gigantic Cabbit. With the reboot of Saints Row, there could be many undiscovered Cabbits still out there.

6 The Singing Bush

In the Badlands South, players will hear some strange singing whilst venturing through the dry lands. Following the voice will lead them to the singing bush, a rather strange addition to the game, but in Saints Row, such weirdness seems commonplace.

This singing bush is an Easter egg to the beloved comedy film from the '80s, The Three Amigos. The singing bush loves to sing and doesn’t seem to stop, even if players decide to start shooting it. It’s one of the many absurdities that people love and remember from the Saints Row franchise.

5 Thor’s Hammer

In the very southwest of the Badlands South, players can stumble across an Asgardian relic belonging to none other than Thor Odinson. The appearance of Thor’s hammer may be a shocker, but Mjolnir seems to be no stranger to being trapped in the middle of a desert. Marvel Studios’ 2011 film, Thor, had Mjolnir awaiting on Earth for someone worthy.

The Worthy Hammer sadly cannot be wielded like other Saints Row Easter eggs, like in Saints Row 4, where the Penetrator melee weapon was embedded in a rock. Nonetheless, it’s a fun Easter egg to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Thor himself.

4 Pennywise The Clown

Lake Sabastian features a lot of pipes and sewer grates. Although players cannot access them, something rather ominous lurks behind them. Players can find a red balloon in a sewer grate, much like the Stephen King novel and film I.T. This balloon is the allure of the child and fear-eating being, Pennywise the Clown.

Players that are creeped out by the Easter egg may find themselves feeling even more unsettled when they realize that they are unable to shoot the balloon to pop it. Players should quickly hop in their vehicle and get out of there.

3 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Whoever the prominent creator of graffiti is in Saints Row seems to have quite the adoration for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. In the Badlands South, quite close to the obnoxiously singing bush, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are present as drawings, right next to a sewer drain, an iconic location for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Each turtle features their iconic bandanas, from blue, purple, orange, and red. There’s also a green spill next to them, indicating the green mutant ooze that gave them powers. It’s fun to see Saints Row referencing another series, something they are no stranger to.

2 The Legend Of Zelda

Venturing into the Rojas Desert North, players can begin dumpster diving in the hopes of easy cash or fun Saints Row weapons. Such activity is the ridiculousness that is expected of previous Saints Row games. What makes this such a great Easter egg, is that fans of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda will instantly recognize the interaction of the player rummaging through a dumpster with a golden hue, all whilst an iconic theme plays.

The music featured is much like that from The Legend of Zelda, in which Link opens a chest, and reveals to the player his discovery. In Saints Row 2022, the player will obtain the weapon The Recycler, another fun Easter egg that gives players a weapon.

1 Red Faction

The setting created for the Saints Row reboot has a lot of love and care for previous games made by Volition. The company’s flagship franchise, Red Faction, returns in the form of an honorable Easter egg, where players need to visit Red Faction Memorial Park and explore the hidden history. This is a large Easter egg, with Red Faction being prominent as an alcoholic brewery, and a history lesson that fits into the lore of Saints Row’s reboot.

This Easter egg combines the story of Red Faction into the whimsical canon of Saints Row without being disrespectful to either game. Red Faction is a beloved series, that has yet to see a return, but there’s a clear love from Saints Row.

Saints Row is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
