Sega and Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis are teaming up with hololive, a VTuber agency, for some new in-game items and a short collaboration anime. The update also adds a new boss challenge in Kvaris, and more.

If you’ve never heard of Hololive Production, it's an agency that represents talent groups like hololive and HOLOSTARS that produce online content using 2D and 3D character models. Virtual streamers in the form of special characters. With the colorful, anime-inspired Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis, this hololive and Sega collaboration makes sense.

According to a release on the event:

Starting today, players can use AC Scratch Tickets to transform into Shirakami Fubuki (hololive), Ninomae Ina'nis (hololive English), and Kageyama Shien (HOLOSTARS). Items include outfits, accessories, and voices. All players can take part in the Beginners' Boost Campaign! Log in and instantly receive hololive production stickers and an experience boost for a limited time.

There's an in-game exclusive original short anime that is also available for viewing with the update. You'll be able to watch it on the giant monitor in Central City once you get there. There’s a holotour minisite dedicated to the collaboration, and the site is designed with these virtual streamers as your tour guides. The minisite is a good guide, working like a tutorial and overview of the game itself and what you can see, do, and of course, fight.

Speaking of anime, you will be able to watch all episodes of the PSO2: The Animation on the game's official YouTube channel, as well as in-game concerts. This is part of the ongoing 10th anniversary celebrations.

The new update also adds a defense quest in South Kvaris, where you’ll have to get on your floating boards and use your honed Kvaris snowboarding skills strategically to fight the new boss, Vardias, and other enemies in the new challenge. There’s a new weapon camo, ARKS record racing for field races, which will begin on August 31st, and more.
