This article is part of a directory: Stardew Valley: A Complete Guide and Walkthrough
Table of contents

In Stardew Valley, there are seemingly endless things to do. New content will become available as the seasons change and the years go past. Once players reach Year 3 on their Stardew Valley journey, they will be able to find Trash Bear, a quest-giving NPC. By this stage in the game, players should have a well-established farm and upgraded skills, meaning Trash Bear's requests should be a breeze.

This guide will detail Trash Bear’s location, the possible quest items he may be looking for, and the rewards players receive upon completing his quests.

Location

Stardew Valley Cindersap Forest

Trash Bear is unavailable at the start of the game; he appears in-game on the first non-rainy day of Year Three. He appears at the bottom of Cindersap Forest, south of Marnie’s Ranch, to the right of the Sewer drainpipe exit.

Players do not have to talk to him immediately, as he will remain in that location until his quests are completed. Players should note that Trash Bear will never appear on a rainy day, even if they have spoken to him prior and triggered his quests.

Trash Bear’s Requests

Trash Bear quests in Stardew Valley

Once players locate Trash Bear, they will need to talk to him to trigger four or five mini-quests, where he will ask for specific items. There is no time limit in fulfilling these requests.

He will typically request either two random seasonal fish or two foraged items. A request will never change until it is completed unless the season changes and the previous request was a season-specific item. For example, Carp are available in Spring, Summer, and Fall, and so are fairly easy to obtain.

The table below has divided up the potential request items by season, and if it is foraged or caught by fishing.

He will also request two cooked dishes after the fish/foraged items have been given. These may be harder to obtain, particularly if he asks for a meal the player does not know the recipe for. However, players are in luck, as any cooked dish from either Gus or the Traveling Cart can be used, meaning the food does not exclusively have to be cooked by the player. By this stage in the game though, players should be tuning in to Queen of Sauce daily to learn new recipes and should know most of them by now.

Rewards

Once Trash Bear’s requests have been fulfilled, he will fly away on an umbrella made out of leaves, reminiscent of Studio Ghibli's animated film My Neighbor Totoro. There is even an adorable mod that replaces him with the iconic Studio Ghibli character Totoro.

Trash Bear will then reward players with the following – please note that these rewards are purely for aesthetic purposes, and offer no gameplay improvements. They simply make Pelican Town look better appearance-wise.

  • The trash in the water by the sewer will be cleaned up.
  • Dusty's derelict dog pen gets upgraded.
  • Pam's front yard is tidied up, and the litter is removed.

Overall, Trash Bear’s quests are well worth players completing in order to restore some beauty to the quaint Pelican Town.

Stardew Valley is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, and many other devices.
