Pokemon TCG has released a lot of collectible trading cards since it was first launched in Japan in 1996. Reaching western shores in 1999, the trading card game has amassed such a dedicated community over the years that some Pokemon TCG items have been priced expensively due to their rarity. To celebrate both the trading card game and its loving fanbase, Pokemon TCG has recently opened a special exhibit online that features the many illustrations that have appeared on the game’s collectible cards over time.

With every new Pokemon generation, the Pokemon TCG playerbase likely expects that the release of a new generation of trading cards will soon follow. As Pokemon Scarlet and Violet releases this November 2022, fans are probably anticipating the new deck of Pokemon cards that the company will release and how it will change the meta. Part of the community’s excitement likely also lies in what kind of new illustrations the next generation of cards will feature, as this likely gives them more incentive to collect pieces that cater to their visual preferences.

To celebrate the many Pokemon card illustrations found in the game, Pokemon TCG has opened an online exhibit from August to October 2022. According to the site, the illustrations are categorized in different ways for visitors to appreciate. There are three main categories in the online exhibit titled “Life,” “History,” and “Artist.” The “Life” category features Pokemon in different landscape settings while “History” tells the story of how Pokemon card illustrations have evolved over time. Finally, the “Artist” category shares the works of different artists that have contributed to the Pokemon TCG industry.

Visitors would likely appreciate that there are other special rooms that focus on specific Pokemon TCG illustrations. This includes pieces fromTakumi Wada, a illustrator known for his work in Nintendo series such as The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, and Super Smash Bros. Other rooms in the exhibit also feature different Pikachu card illustrations and the winners of the recent Pokemon TCG 2022 illustration contest. Fans should note that they need to make a free account within the website in order to gain access to the different rooms in the online exhibit.

The Pokemon TCG Online Illustration Exhibition is a great way for long-time and new fans to appreciate the different artworks featured on their beloved Pokemon cards. Hopefully The Pokemon Company keeps the Pokemon TCG exhibit open beyond October 2022, to give the community more time to really get into each of the exhibition's rooms.
