Destiny 2's Season of the Haunted included a new Dungeon in the form of Duality, which tied perfectly into the storyline that Season 17 was telling about the Leviathan, Calus, and The Witness. With less than two weeks remaining until the Destiny 2 showcase event planned for August 23, Bungie is still keeping its cards close to the chest when it comes to revealing details about Season 18 and what the reprised Destiny Raid will be. Bungie did reveal that the release date for the Season 18 Raid will be on the first Friday after the launch of the new Season, which means that players will only have three days to prepare for it.

Another important thing that Bungie did say is that the legacy Raid coming back to Destiny 2 will not be Crota's End, as the company wants to bring back one of the big hitters -- either King's Fall or Wrath of the Machine. While it makes sense to bring back Wrath of the Machine in Destiny 2 for some reasons, there are counterarguments that make King's Fall the better choice between the two, and also the more likely choice. In fact, King's Fall remains one of the most iconic pieces of content in the whole franchise, despite it being less rewarding than Wrath of the Machine.

Why King's Fall Would be Perfect As a Destiny 2 Season 18 Raid

The Taken King is largely considered one of the best expansions in the history of Destiny, to the point that The Witch Queen campaign and storyline were compared to it immediately after release. Both have powerful Hive themes, with the former delving deeper into the powers of the Hive God Oryx and his army of Taken and the latter being about the Lucent Hive and Savathun's quest for survival. King's Fall perfectly embodies the themes of the DLC it came with, and it would be the perfect continuation of the story of the Hive if it came back in Season 18.

As it stands, Destiny 2 players have killed Oryx many years ago and have now faced his sister, Savathun, only to discover that she and her Lucent Brood were given the Light by the Traveler itself. In The Witch Queen campaign, Savathun's two truths and two lies game talks about the return of the Taken King, which likely alludes to Oryx's title being passed onto someone else. Because of this, reprising King's Fall would be a great way to remember what happened to Oryx and tie into the lore of the pre-Lightfall era.

Another reason why King's Fall would be a great pick for Season 18 is that the whole Raid, while much longer than Wrath of the Machine, has multiple mechanics that Destiny 2 players know very well by now, including the charging plates that have been a staple for years. This makes King's Fall less difficult to approach for new players compared to Wrath of the Machine, especially considering that one of the boss encounters is Golgoroth, an Ogre that has a similar mechanic to that of the Caretaker in Vow of the Disciple.

The Will of Light perk could be turned into the Raid's Origin Trait, which in Destiny made players deal more damage to Taken enemies, something that could easily be brought back for Destiny 2. This would also be a great opportunity to bring back the Raid Exotic for King's Fall, which was a scout rifle called Touch of Malice. This was a unique Exotic item that works similarly to the existing Tommy's Matchbook, as it damages its user to deal more damage when activating its perk. Overall, King's Fall would be a fantastic addition to the game, and it could help Bungie further the stories of Destiny 2 as a whole.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
