After a long wait, fans finally have God of War Ragnarok’s release date and details on its collector’s and Jotnar special editions. There’s still more to see of the game and plenty of time to see it between now and then, but for now, the hype is palpable.

It didn’t take fans long to realize this date was super important; in fact, Santa Monica Studio would give away one of the most important aspects of this date: It’s a Wednesday. Games traditionally release on Tuesday or Friday, so Wednesday is an odd choice. This means God of War Ragnarok comes out the day after Skull and Bones, but the reasoning is sound. One of Odin’s spellings is Woden, which is tied to Wednesday, or Odin’s Day.

God of War Ragnarok’s Release Date Does More Than Celebrate Odin’s Day

Not only is this a clear hint that Odin will play a major role in the game, but as many fans have noticed (as seen below), there’s a lot more significance tied to this. There are 9 realms in God of War’s current world, and this could imply fans will visit all nine. This makes God of War Ragnarok sound like a huge game.

Counting every single title, God of War Ragnarok is the ninth entry in the franchise, and as Pyo points out, the number 9 represents completion in numerology. Now, hopefully, this doesn’t imply it is the last game, but it could mean as much. The more likely implication here, however, is that this is Kratos’ last appearance in God of War. Based on the events of the first game, there’s a real chance that Kraos finally falls, and perhaps future God of War games will explore Atreus.

This is reading a lot into a release date, but it’s hard to imagine how all of this could be a coincidence. Perhaps the most exciting thing here is that there’s almost no way fans understand the full significance of God of War Ragnarok’s release date. Truth is, they likely won’t until the game is in their hands and played.

God of War Ragnarok releases November 9 for PS4 and PS5.
