The Nintendo Switch remains incredibly popular more than five years after it was released. Despite longstanding rumors that Nintendo is working on a successor to the Switch, a Switch Pro, the only upgrade delivered so far is the Nintendo Switch OLED. And it doesn't look like that's going to change any time soon, as Nintendo has now revealed its first special edition Switch OLED themed after one of 2022's most anticipated exclusives, Splatoon 3.

As Nintendo Switch fans likely already know, Splatoon 3 is in development for release on September 9. It's one of the biggest Nintendo Switch exclusive game releases of the year, and Nintendo is going to celebrate the occasion with a special edition of the Switch OLED model. The special edition console will feature a gray Splatoon 3 graphic on the front and back of the docking station, as well as a neon green ink splash. The Switch itself will have a pair of Splatoon 3 Joy-Cons, one green, one purple, and then more of the Splatoon 3 art alongside the entire back of the console.

Pricing for the new Nintendo Switch model has yet to be made available, but it's confirmed for release on August 26. That's two weeks ahead of the release of Splatoon 3, obviously, and as such the game will not be included with the console. Fans will just have to pick up the special edition Splatoon 3 Nintendo Switch first and then the game later.

The standard Nintendo Switch OLED model is currently available in two different colors, white and black. The white model comes with a pair of white Joy-Cons and the black model comes with a pair of neon red and blue Joy-Cons. These OLED consoles can be purchased for $350, $50 more than the $300 standard version of the Switch console and $150 more than the $200 Switch Lite.

The Nintendo Switch OLED console is not a more powerful version of the original Nintendo Switch. They both play exactly the same games. The difference is that the Switch OLED features a 7-inch OLED screen, which has improved visual quality over the standard switch's 6.2-inch screen. The OLED Switch also has 64GB of internal memory compared to the standard Switch's 32GB.

Special edition consoles from Nintendo are a rarity anymore, but this unique Splatoon 3 Switch OLED will prove a perfect upgrade option for Splatoon squid kids. Expect it to be available in limited supply, of course. These special edition consoles are often limited in availability and sell out quickly.

Splatoon 3 launches on September 9 for Nintendo Switch.
