Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was apparently going to feature a famous Connery-era Bond stunt, during the Madagascar jeep chase.

Kurt Margenau, who was the co-lead designer on the game, spoke with Couch Soup (via Eurogamer) about the game’s developement. During the conversation, Margenau talked about a maneuvre that almost ended up in the game. It would have been an homage to Diamonds Are Forever, the Sean Connery Bond outing from 1971.

The stunt in question would have entailed Nathan Drake’s jeep tipping onto two wheels. In Diamonds Are Forever, Connery’s Bond pulled a similar trick to shunt his car—a Ford Mustang Mach 1, in devil red—through a narrow alley. It’s a classic silly moment.

It didn’t end up in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, but if it did it wouldn’t be the first time that the series has taken inspiration from 007. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception features a stunt culled from The Living Daylights. That movie, starring Timothy Dalton as Bond (one of the very best to ever do it), featured Bond dangling out the back of a plane, above a desert. When it comes to stealing, nobody does it better than Drake.
