Created by Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald, who also created Cobra Kai, Obliterated tells the story of Ava Winters (Henning), a CIA agent who is more of a logical character and Chad McKnight (Zano), who runs a SEAL team and is more "wild." According to Variety, TBS picked up the series three years ago, but now it has moved to Netflix. The publication reported that Netflix ordered eight episodes that are each 45 minutes long.

Nick Zano is known for playing Vince on the sitcom What I Like About You, which also starred Amanda Bynes and Jennie Garth and aired from 2003 to 2006. Zano played Drew Pragin in an episode of the 2010 reboot of Melrose Place, Dr. Miller in two episodes of teen TV show The Secret Life Of The American Teenager, Pete in several episodes of Happy Endings, and Arthur on the 2015 TV series Minority Report. Most recently, Zano played NateHeywood/Steel in Legends of Tomorrow.

Shelley Henning is most recognizable for playing the main character Blaire Lilly in the inventive horror movie Unfriended from 2014. Henning also played Malia Tate during seasons 3 to 6 of Teen Wolf. Malia has a chaotic and stressful life characteristic of the characters on the show with the werewolf Peter Tate as her father. Fans enjoyed watching Henning play this character and Malia's romance with Scott McCall (Tyler Posey) was also an important part of her storyline and of the series finale.

In 2014, Henning played Debbie Galardi in Ouija, and in 2017, she had a role in the comedy When We First Met. Henning also starred in The After Party. Henning also played a major role in the Netflix comedy The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window, which features many horror and thriller tropes.

In 2022, Netflix released several comedy series, including Murderville starring Will Arnett, The Pentaverate created by and starring Mike Myers, God's Favorite Idiot starring Melissa McCarthy, and Man vs Bee co-created and starring Rowan Atkinson.
